  • 1st MOT

So yesterday my little lady went for her 1st MOT (Citroen Dealer) 1 month before citroen uk used vehicle warranty expired.
So later that same day i got a pnone call to tell me my car was ready and had passed the mot BUT 1 of my wishbones was bent beside the balljoint and he would show me it when i picked up my little lady.
so quick version of the story went like this

Citroen mechanic ; its had a fair whack but not enough to fail an MOT but a whack like that would have caused some wheel damage

ME ; i never hit anything like large potholes or nothing like that im shure i would have known if i did now i have had the car for 13 months with no adverse problems with the steering

Citroen mechanic : well it would seem as though its had new wheels and tyres as all 4 tyres are the same and in new condition

Anyway you know what way this is going so
i phoned the Citroen Dealer whom i bought the car from explained the situation and gues wot..... ive GOT to prove the wishbone was bent when i bought the car

Needless to say ive now got a repair i need to get done by myself at my own cost with NO help what so ever from Citroen Dealer through in Durham
i did ask if it was covered under citroen uk warranty but its not as its a damaged part not faulty.

total price from citroen to replace wishbone = £289.68 + VAT
oh and i was told there COULD be more underlying problems with the suspention on same side so could be more expense

    Bollox! Sorry to hear it.
Like someone said on here once - "If it's got tits or wheels it's gonna give you problems!"

    Good luck

Personally i would use an independent garage rather than pay Citroen any more money. good luck with getting her fixed!

well luckily i can do the job myself but i posted this thread mostly to highlight the downside to some Dealers not only Citroen but others too although i am reading more of ppl not getting aftersales satisfaction from Citroen
and now i am another one to be added to the statistics

& BTW i did my own service 2 wks ago and saved a fortune using Total oil BMW garage doing it for £22 at the moment and a K&N filter

Unfortunately i'd have to agree with Bigfeet, unless you check out your second hand car in the first week of getting it you will never know what damage maybe lurking underneath.

on a lighter note, I had a Seat Leon Mk1 years ago and on day, not knowingly, put dirty fuel into the car, i did not know which garage was at fault, or when it had contaminated the injectors, Fuel pump etc and ended up with a 900 quid bill. luckily enough my Insurance paid up. I quoted to them, an "Unknown 3rd party" had damaged my car. they paid the bill in full minus the excess

my mot is not until 4 years in NI

                Wow...

Can you prove it was broken before it was pointed out to you? From reading your post it doesn't sound conducive that the fault was there before the car was sold to you (I'm not saying it wasn't either so please don't shout at me too).

If you were sold the car with the bent part, why did you not raise the issue with the dealer to start with?

I was not trying to sound sarcastic in any form, just pointing out that the dealer that sold the car would have taken the stance that they did, look at it from their point of view.

Anyway you sound like a practical sort of person who I have no doubt will get it fixed no bother and be back on the road.

                    the point is Toxic
when i bought the car i did take it a drive and it drove extremely well, no idications of anything whatso ever of anything being wrong now i would agree to getting an RAC or AA check from a lesser back street garage but not from a so called reputable garage like Citroen
at the end of the day there is no way i can proove it was bent at the time when i bought it,
thats why i accept the fact that i will have to get it sorted myself and the point to this thread is not for sarcasm but to highlight what COULD happen to anyone else and not just from Citroen

Big i knew i would have a tough time to proove it, EVEN the Citroen dealer who did the MOT said to try so try i did thats why i will get it fixed myself it drives fine i just saw red when i was told it had a bent wishbone and i KNEW 100% i didnt do the damage therefore i was sold it like that so i had to try just like some of the guys on here with engine problems and thier mods

IF YOU DONT TRY YOU WILL NEVER KNOW :Joni:

My car failed it's MOT and needed repair work, something about a bearing in my input shaft in my gearbox.

I flagged this with them prior to my MOT because I'd noticed a new noise.

With 2 days before my warranty expired my dealer pulled out all the stops and got my car in for repairs.

They also maybe said that the damage to the gearbox may or may not have been caused by driving style, and if it was it would void warranty because that would be damage rather than faulty/wear and tear.

But they did all they could for me and got her ready for FCS, so I was stoked.

Could you go to another another dealer and ask them that you know what the fault is, flagged at MOT. It hasn't caused any concern until it was found at the MOT (so you haven't known about it or had concerns because it hasn't impacted drive) and what would be the possibility of getting it fixed under your warranty?

i gues there are some dealers with guys willing to help just not the one i bought the car from lol

the difference between your gearbox & my wishbone is the cannot say 100% you are to blame but my wishbone you cannot say it was a manufacturing fault just a lousy previous driver

I got my car from Lincoln - Advantage Motor group.

My support has come from my local Perry's garage in Milton Keynes, 100 miles apart.
