Had the DS checked yesterday. The rattle was the hydraulic tappets and it's apparently perfectly normal for them to be that loud.

Not just the THP150 - all the petrol engines used in the DS3 & MINI are the same basic unit.

Great post! Mine lasts for 30 seconds. We just let it idle until it stops. Happens about 2 times a month.

My THP has a metallic tapping noise in addition to normal valve gear noise when cold. When warm the metallic noise goes but I'm aware of a deeper noise inside the cabin. Getting dealer to check it out.

My noise persists and lasts longer now from a cold start. Dealer doesn't know what it is. It seems to be coming from the left hand side of the engine so I'm starting to think it might be the water pump as mentioned above and in another thread.

After further degradation and more dealer visits I was starting to become very frustrated...but I've finally had the sound diagnosed as a turbo fault. Makes sense as the noise isn't apparent at idle and begins to appear around 1500rpm.

                    *edit
                    Wasn't the turbo, still unknown.

You can hear in the video below what it sounds like on start up, eventually when the car is up to temperature it mostly disappears but is still noticeable between 2500-3500 rpm. Any suggestions?

                        Any hesitation or superknock issues?

Sometimes I think I feel a little hesitation but don't know if it's just my imagination, it's nothing too noticeable anyway. Superknock?

The superknock/hesitation fault will typically be felt in 5th/6th under heavy acceleration. You'd feel the car "judder" or feel as if it's pulling you back.

If you're suffering those symptoms and you've got a loud tick, get it booked into your dealers to resolve asap.

You wont loose anything by asking advice from Citroen- but it doesn't sound too much different to my old one (22500 no issues) and my new 155 isn't far off
To be honest, unless the noise is getting worse, and after you've had free advice from Citroen, forget it. (Unless it gets worse)
How many miles you done and how old is it?- or have I missed that bit? has it got worse- then take it in deffo
They wont like the PCV delete tho

I sometimes- rarely- get a very small hesitation, but Ive noticed that its not the engine. IE the engine tone and throttle still feel/sound smooth when it happens, so probablytraction slip on the road for an instant, bit of debris, water, leaves on the line.......LOL

Sure it will be fine Spiike- if its something akin to the older 150s youll be the first 155 on here, and your PCV delete should stop the crud dropping into the engine to be burnt off. Next stop OCC fitted to the other pipe- Warranty out the window tho

I'm not attempting to be an arse Chris (that comes naturally) but if a user is reporting that they're hearing strange noises from their engine bay that they haven't heard before I don't think the best thing to advise would be to "leave it after Citroen have made suggestions as to what could be the cause" -Paraphrased.

Spiike, your best bet would be to make Citroen aware of the fault and to get them to confirm 100% what the cause of the issue is (get this in writing if they're adamant this won't affect the engine). If it is something that could be of detriment to the car then leave it with them to fix.
