  • Diesel consumption comparison

Being my first diesel car, I was very keen on the whole fuel consumption stats in the brochure. I do a lot of miles each week and was looking for some savings in my monthly fuel spend - which has worked out a treat.

Anyway, reason for the post, I've seen a post on here saying that the first bar in the fuel when filled up used to take forever to go down and now it goes down quite fast. I've got the same effect on my wee motor.

Now, I tend to stick to 63mph on the motorway on my daily commute and I've noticed that my fuel gauge is going down a lot quicker these days and that the mpg readout is a lot less than it used to be a month or two ago. Before it was averaging above 60mpg, now it's more along the lines of the lower 50's, which is still good but not what it used to be. Is this to be expected or what, having had the car half a year now and nearly 12,000 on the clock?

Anyone else (who drives conservatively) noticing anything similar on their DS3's?

I noticed that my overall fuel consumprion has dropped during that past week or so, but getting stuck in a monster traffic jam last week for nearly 3 hrs has taken its toll.
Personally I tend to have the instantainious consumption showing all the time so that I can see when my right foot is getting "heavy"

First 2000 miles I have averaged about 58mpg. Most of this is mixed motorway and side roads in rush hour so not bad at all.

I would not have thought that this would drop over a few months into a new car?

Bear in mind that the colder weather will have a effect on your MPG which may help to explain a drop. We have been getting around 58 MPG and thats with the Climate running all the time, most of our drives are main a roads with quite a few back twisty b roads ( )

The best thing to do if you are worried is to work out the real MPG by doing the sums after a fill up.

Well on the dash tonight on the way back there it was saying 56.4mpg and that was reset after my last fill-up. I use aCar on my Android for my proper read-outs though, will have to check that after a few weeks in this weather. But aye, granted the weather will take its toll, I've been lucky so far to miss out on the fun of queues, crashes and delays though. Touch wood!

Cheers though folks, will keep an eye on it how it goes through the next couple of weeks.
