Flat tyre

I got to work this morning and noticed my rear left tyre is flat due to a screw in the middle of the wheel.

Would it be wise to drive the 4 miles home? Or get it sorted before I leave work.

Do I use the tyre repair kit? Is it a temporary or permanent repair? Or am I better off letting a garage repair it or need a new tyre?

As you can tell I'm pretty clueless without a spare wheel.

I wouldn't drive on it welsh lad you'll just knacker the tyre , get it sorted before you leave work if you can .
last resort use the tyre repair kit to get you home but this is only a temporary measure you'll need to get it sorted

Happened to me a few weeks ago:



Luckily I was 100 yards from a petrol station so I pumped it up and then drove it to the local garage and got it fixed.

As BEEFERS says, if you drive on it flat it will ruin the tyre and you'll need a new one.

Should cost around £15 to repair (depending on where you go), much cheaper than a new tyre.

If you use the repair goo kit, you wont be able to get the tyre repaired

Don't drive on it flat as already said

If it were me, I would inflate the tyre and see if it holds air enough for you to get to a tyre place- and don't remove the screw/nail

But obvs.....its your decision

As stated above, if its completely flat and won't stay inflated long enough to get you to a garage don't drive it.
If you can manage to get to a decent garage (without using the repair goo kit) they will be able to plug it for you. Should be able to be plugged easy so just be aware if they try getting a new tyre out of you.

May be too late to add this (only just seen the thread) but:-

DON'T drive on a fully flat tyre.

(a) its dangerous - that wheel will have seriously reduced cornering and braking grip
(b) as has already been said above, you'll trash the tyre, whereas with just a screw in the tread like that it should be easily and cheaply repaired.
(c) you risk trashing trashing the alloy as well as the tyre

Carry one of these kits - Cheap n Fast fix at the side of the road, Had to use it for the very first time for my van a few weeks ago, had seen the "How to" on youtube so had a good idea on what to do, took less than 5 minutes to repair after a screw had gone through the tyre - never leave home without it now

Run flats ? Did we discuss this before, I can't remember how it ended.....? Did you fit them as an option ?

Came with the car from dealers ship in Dorchester mmc been on since new but need some new ones ASAP

Don't you have to have a pressure monitor if you're using run flats?

My mate has them on his BMW and he has a pressure monitor that displays on the dashboard when he has a puncture, another friend with a Mini has the same system as you'd expect, hence my confusion at them being fitted on a DS3
