Lighting Questions?

Hello there guys!

This is going to sound completely stupid.

I'm going to be getting a HID Kit, but so many different ones have popped up from 6K-12K, Which i know is the temperature of the bulb and determines what color you get
6k - White
8k - Ice White
10k- Blue ?
12k- Purple?

i think they are in the correct order but don't quote me on that, the real question that i have is do i get a H7 Kit? or H1? or can i get both?

H7 - Sidelights/Dipped beam? i think?
and H1 - Main Beam?

The main question i was hoping to get answered is what bulb does what (H1,H7) and if it is H1,H7 that i need.. have a DS3Dstyle 60Plate.

H1 is high beam
H7 is low beam

I've got 4300K, that's the standard color that all the manufacturers use. 6000K is already too blueish for my taste..

Kept my high beam standard, because xenon take a while to warm up, so not so useful for high beams.

If your going to do it make sure you get a can bus compatible kit with H7R bulbs. The R means the bulb is for reflector headlamps like ours.

Also keep your original bulbs somewhere in your car, should you get pulled over some time. Then you can fit them back on the spot, and probably get away with it.
Certainly if you're going to fit 5000K or more, it's very noticeable aftermarket (and illegal).

8000k 55w H7R will be fine. Very small chance of being pulled tbf, last of the polices issues.

H1 light for main beam. do not buy hids for them. They dont flash and when you switched them on a driver could be mistaken etc.
For the H1, get yourself philips extreme vision, £20 on ebay and they work brilliantly. Not amazingly white but. As good as it gets.

Also make sure the HID,s are canbus error free, and if you get any led sidelights, also make sure these are also error free.

Problems solved.
Dont worry about police. I live next to a police station and ive had my HID's in for a year now, just make sure you get them adjusted properly after fitting them !

The other thing to bear in mind is that from next year these kits will be illegal (from my understanding) and that your car may fail a roadside test.

i got the osram night breaker plus after asking for some guidance on this topic myself and i must say great decision. I got them off ebay cost me about 25 quid for both sets and what a difference it makes. Def recommend them

What's the general opinion here? Get the brightest lights you can get away with and bugger the dazzled people coming towards you?

Never had any cars coming towards me flash their lights at me, so I suppose I'm good.. On the other hand, people may be getting used to blinding lights, because it seems to be coming standard on some recent cars (I'm looking at you, Audi...)

I know it does seem to be that way, I have the Osram Night Breaker Plus lights for Main and dipped beam and they are brilliant, they also don't blind other drivers (well I've never been flashed) and I won't have to remove them at MOT time nor be worried about being pulled over by Den's mates....

Never see the point of fantastic looking lights- I mean its everyone else that gets the benefit

Yep exactly, the brightness of some of these aftermarket HIDs is asking for trouble

At least when they are oncoming, they've gone in 5 or 10 seconds
