thp intake hose ???

Looks like my intake hose is missing a link piece??
There's a gap between the cold intake 'funnel' and
the piece just under it?!?
Otherwise it's just intaking mostly hot engine bay??
Only just noticed this (after 8,000 miles )

Not missing anything the two pipes are not connected. Top one funnels air to behind the headlight along with rain and bugs and any other stuff then bottom pipe runs the air to the filter box.

Some of the early cars had a flat piece of plastic over the top pipe but later cars didn't have that piece.

What's the bloomin' point of THAT?
I suppose it gives a cooling effect to the
Nearside headlight??? So, i could put
a higher wattage bulb in there

My 2010 has the little piece of plastic but I also thought a bit was missing. Even had a good look for it in the engine bay when I was changing the oil filter. That's the oil filter that the rest of the engine was built around.
