My Service light came on and a Check oil level indicator . I topped up with the recommended grade of fuel however the check indicator light remains on . I took it to the garage and was advised that it would take 24 hours for the indicator to reset itself . This sounded like Friday afternoon bull to me but I had no alternative but to leave with the indicator light still appearing . Is this actually right ?

Havent heard that before- wouldn't use the car me, if oil warning light on
Have been in a car years ago (1600GT Capri) and after having a speedy drive, stopped at the lights, and oil warning light had been on
Took no notice as thought it was a fault which had occurred before, engine went pop and a piece of metal the size of a small fist was on the tarmac. It had gone "POP" bigtime
Got a new engine, but never drive with a light on any moresigpicJog on Noddy

That happened to me just when the temperature outside dropped 2 week back. I checked the oil and it was fine so just topped it up a little to make sure and it still came one every time i started the car up. 24 hours later it went off and not flashed at me since. So all i can say is wait 24hour and it should be okay:ds3:The Parts Advisor:ds3:

As long as you have visually checked the oil level then the light will reset by it's self in a day or so, the ECU takes a couple of dips (when you start cold or after a 4 hour break) to make sure before killing the light....I should never have doubted the Lord of Bacon!!

The low oil level light and low oil pressure lights are 2 totally different warning systems. Never rely on the oil level indicator, manually check your oil weekly . And if the red oil pressure light comes on stop the engine immediately, do not re start untill you have found the cause . low pressure can be terminal , low level is just that .
