Winter tyres??!!

Hi! I live at the top of a very long and steep bank....my DS struggled...but made it..up and down for the last two winters. For my own sanity and hopefully less wheel spinning I am considering winter tyres.

I would love any feedback on usefulness/cost etc.. from you lovely people out there!!!!

A cheaper option could be snow socks, have you looked at them?

And its never snowed, hailed or been below 5deg C (yet)
But theyre marvellous

As Gazski said above if it's just the one hill your DS struggles up the best option would be snow socks

Thanks for the replies so far! I guess its not just the one hill.... lots of banks around me to get to and from work..
Not thought about snow socks though..
My 1 litre corsa with pram wheels was a gem in the snow..my current motor baby is not quite so fit!!

Hi Miss Pippy

A lot of people (including some here!) confuse winter tyres with snow tyres.
Winter tyres - look like ordinary tyres but are made from a different compound rubber that works better (stays softer) below 7C. So they grip better in the cold.
Snow tyres - have tread patterns designed to perform better in snow (no kidding!).

If snow is your main concern I would just buy some socks - cheaper and we may not have any snow.
If you want best safety in the cold invest in a set of cheap steel wheels and put some winter tyres on them.

Jimbobs advice is good.
However, putting snow socks on when snow is falling, and building up on the ground, and its cold an wet, can be a right pain.
Also snow socks can get ripped to shreds if you drive across tarmac with no snow
Good for an emergency situ tho
