  • Remap

Basically I have my DS3 but I'm not an engine guy so I'm not really sure. I have been reading around the Engine remap and from what I gather it increases power and economy? Seems like a no brainer to me.

I just have a few questions first, and would like to get some help if possible, I have searched round and can't really find the answers.

Will the Remap make my warranty invalid?
I know I SHOULD tell my insurance, but at 19 any power mod is pretty much a no go with insurance so I might not be able to do it otherwise, is it worth the risk?
Are there any reliability issues with it at all?
Finally is it a box that is installed in the engine, or just a change to what is already there? Different sites give conflicting information.

    Thanks in advance.

Are there any reliability issues with it at all? - Not if you go to Jamie @ SP Tuning.

    Hope this helps !

Yeah that did help thanks, I looked at Jamie and tried to message him but don't think it would let me send it. Is he worth the 240 mile round trip? As I know there is a tuning garage round here that is highly regarded as being good at remapping, they did my Dad's MSport 1 Series. They are both similarly priced at £270, so I'm just debating if the trip is worth it.

Haha he could swap it for a lambo and I still don't think I'd enjoy the M6!

You're car is gorgeous by the way mate, love the smoked headlights.

If you re-map and don't tell the insurance then you have no insurance and are breaking the law. Six points would be expensive if caught then see what that does to your future insurance! Insurance companies are doing more and more to void policies in the event of accidents and they can tell it's re-mapped if they really want to. Not worth the risk. You've got plenty of power already for a 19 year old.

If you risk it I hope to god you don't hit me!

With JB on this one- if you only do one thing once youve remapped- tell your insurance
Dont wanna be a doom monger, but if you get involved in a nasty collision, they will go over everything with a fine toothcomb
              Your choice

ED: Jamies a 300 mile round trip for me too. Been worth it every time

Trouble with being a teenager (and I was no different) is that you either fail to see what might happen or fail to believe that it will. My wife is treating a man who stepped out in front of a car that didn't see him. End result is brain damage and a wheelchair and a claim north of £3 million. With no insurance the lad who hit him is liable! You bet if this kind of accident occurs the insurance company will think nothing of spending a couple of hundred quid to see if they can get out of the claim.

                It really isn't worth it!

Take care, have fun, enjoy what you have, thrash it when nobody is around!

Im not saying he should keep it from his insurance, but I've had three cars written off (all hit from behind) and each time the bloke gave the car a 5 minute look over and signed it off.

I would be more interested in the economy than the power increase to be honest! The power would just be an added bonus, I'll ask my insurance tomorrow and see, the things is I don't plan on binning it and killing anyone! I only really give it a blast on the motorways or occasionally very late at night. I just can't decide if it is worth it, if I asked my insurance I am pretty sure it would be a straight up no.

When I did my last car my insurance went up £50. However- my exisitng insurer refused to insure me, which scared the life out of me
                        They lost a customer there.
Waiting for a while on this one- just visual and reversible mods

My insurer wouldn't even let me tint the windows on my Corsa (Generic Chav ha) but yeah I will try asking them but I know the answer really.

Forgetting the fact that not telling your insurance company would be insurance fraud and would render any insurance you currently have invalid, you'll be glad you were honest if you ever need to make a big claim!

Bottom line, if a re-map pushes your premium to more than you can afford you don't do it.

I think if you're a young driver it will mean a hefty premium increase if you have it remapped.
