  • Service and Oil warning light ON!!!!

Drove the POS to Morrisons, did the shopping and started the car up and is now saying the oil level is low and it needs checking. Wheres all my oil gone in 12600 miles? I cant see the oil is particularly low on the dip stick.

Should it be between the 2 lobes?

    Fucking crap car.

    Problems now:
    Oil light on
Oil weeping out of the oil breather at the top of the engine as per info rapids.
    Noisy belt
    Windows clonking
Engine warning light comes on sometimes and can be reset by disconnecting the battery.
Drives like someone has filled my exhaust system up with cement before the engine warning light comes on.

Car booked in for Friday. To long to wait?

The oil level should be between the two lobes on the dipstick. Checking immediately after the engine's been running will give a false reading - leave it at least 15 minutes, remove the dipstick, wipe it, reinsert, remove & check the reading. If it is actually reading low, don't drive the car before topping up.

How frequently do you check the oil level?

A litre or so in 12,600 miles isn't bad. . . or have I spent too long driving Alfas. . .

LOL It reminded me of when I used to ride Royal Enfields (Royal Oilfields). A litre would get me about 12 miles not 12600 miles!
Still, it kept the boots waterproof (if a bit slippery!).

Engine oil should be between the 2 cutouts on the dipstick, ideally close to the top one and certainly NOT below the lower one or above the top one.
Is this the 1st time that you have checked the oil level?
You don't say what engine your is, but the diesel engines should be serviced @ 12,500 miles under "normal" conditions and 10,000 under arduous conditions, for petrol the figures are 20,000 or 12,500 miles.
Fact engines burn oil, nornally very little but they do use it and any leak will get rid of oil.
As for the other "problems" I assume that you have asked your dealer to look at them under warantee, if not...............

I got a low oil level warning message in my THP a few weeks ago, at 12k miles (after the car had been sitting under a heap of snow for a week, which may or may not be relevant).

The oil on the dipstick was showing just above the min level, which surprised me as I check it regularly and until then it hadn't used any oil (although admittedly I had recently done a very quick cross-county dash during which the oily bits got very hot).

It was also flashing a "Service Me Now" -type message, which worried me as the THP isn't due a service until 20k miles.

I treated it to 3/4 litre of fully synthetic, and all the warning lights (including the service light) disappeared. It's been fine since (looks around for nearest bit of wood to touch...).

While on the subject, the dipstick is crap. I find it very difficult to make out the oil level on the stick. Not had that problem before (and before anyone suggests it, it's not my eyesight!).

I check it about every month. It is on the upper limit according to the shitty dipstick now and I have just been out and the light seems to be off now. I am taking it to the dealer on friday to get the engine light and oil breather leak looked at. Apparently there is a new software update out for the THP that fixes the engine light problem and a new gasket for the breather.
