  • Electrochrome rear view mirror

So have had the car since Monday and straight from picking it up late Monday which ment first drive was going home in the dark. I noticed the rear view mirror was extremely dark and id say I can see about 30% out of it.
Then when there is a car behind me all you can make out is to white circles and nothing else. You don't no if its a car, van, truck, tractor. Its like wearing sunglasses at night (not that I have lol) You have to use your wing mirrors to see whats behind you.
In daylight its fine, all the mirrors all look the same as in natural light but night time its useless to use.
Is it a fault or is this how electrochrome works ?, as I thought they would only go dark if you were being dazzled by another driver.
To be honest all the years driving I can say iv only been annoyed by some one Else's lights few times.
I'm addicted to brake fluid, but I can stop anytime.

What you have described is the normal operation of the rear view mirror. Its designed to avoud you being dazzled by cars behind you at night.

You can stop it by putting some black tape over the sensor on the bottom of the mirror.

To be honest I find it rather useful especially with so many illegal HID kits that are poorly fitted to a lot of cars these days!

Doesn't it have an off button?

Gets a bit difficult driving with your finger covering it whilst trying to negotiate the twisties at speed

P.S Dear chav, the more 'Xenon blue' light the lamps produce DOES NOT = BETTER VISIBILTY, just highlights the fact you are a bit of mong.

                    Thanks

You guys and girls, crack me up lmao.
Think I might try and cover the sensor and see how it goes.

Why do you need to know whats in the mirror? As far as I'm concerned if it's behind you it's losing!
