  • Rattling Aircon Pump and excessive vibrations through passenger cabin

Hi all, Another issue with my DS3 E-Hdi 110 Desport Plus 12reg.
Has anyone else had issues with a Very loud rattle noise and excessive vibrations from the engine bay while stationary?
The loud rattle goes away when the A/C is turned off. The car is still under warranty so i presume this can be dealt with when i book it in for a service soon.

    Info:
After a motorway drive at about 50mph constant for an hour (Average speed limit) i pull off driving at 50mph for a while longer and a smell of burnt diesel fills the cabin (not over powering & possibly the second heater, if the car has one!) and finally stop at some lights. Eco light flashes endlessly and the engine keeps running (odd, normally flashes only 3 times when it doesn't stop the engine)
While stationary the whole car is shaking excessively, the fan sounds like it's in overdrive (Very Loud) and the engine is Rattling/Knocking so loud that people are stopping to look at the car...
Upon getting home others point out that the fan is very loud and it sounds wrong. (I agree)

After letting the car cool down for 5 mins; I check oil level (Good), I briefly inspect the car Visually (looks Normal), let the car idle (knocking/tapping + rattle noise from the engine), Turning off the A/C removes the rattle. And the knocking/tapping sounds more like the normal diesel noise rather than anything odd...

Previous issues with the car include a total loss of power (not happened for a while and never happens when the car is checked over...)

The rattling has been there for a few weeks/months but not been this loud before; as a comparison, an idling car with big bore exhaust is drowned out by the noise of my car's rattle and fan!
    Any Ideas?
(Will be booked in with Citroen soon anyway because it's almost due it's second service @ 22,000 miles.)

I'd have said the loud fan was down to the DPF filter regeneration, I've noticed it on mine a couple of times but I've never heard the other noises you describe....

I'd get it booked in asap

The A/C can be noisy- think its the condenser making a clunk when first starting up, and does create a noise when the fan runs too

Maybe a loose or failing Engine mount or timing belt/Chain?

Thanks for the replies. From my past exp i would have thought that the thrust bearing for the clutch may be causing the vibrations? though at 20,000 miles i think this is too soon? Engine mounts are another suggestion though :-)
So the loud fan is likely to be due to the regeneration for the DPF?

One thing i didn't post above is that i was following a Very smoky A-Class just before all of these issues came to light... could this have upset the car somehow?
Will book it in asap though.

No. The only thing the A class could have caused is the smell of diesel in your cabin. But the smoke from the German slipper car won't have done any damage to yours. I'd also be getting it booked in today before your service is due. Not getting the problem seen to straight away can void your warranty. Good luck and keep us informed. Sounds like a real pain in the ass. Can you post a video up so we can hear the noise a little more.

Thanks. Next time it happens i'll turn the radio off so you can hear in on the Dash cam!
Would you guys recommend calling CUK directly regarding this or a dealer? (can't really call during a lecture at uni but somehow it's fine to post on the fourm? )

I'd always speak to the local dealer to arrange for them to take a look, CUK is normally a last resort

This almost sounds like a misfire so to speak. Deffo get it to the local dealer
