  • Petrol Gauge Backlight?

Firstly hi all I'm new here.

Secondly I am have some issues with the back light on my fuel gauge. It died and was wondering if anyone knows a simple fix? It does come back on every so often but mainly stays off so I'm feeling it could be a loose connection?

I've added an image so you're able to see.

Hi and welcome to the club

I think WTF may have posted about this over the weekend on your behalf (ok she did, see above), until then I'd never seen this and would agree with you that it sounds like a loose connection or electrical/led failure.

If you are still within warranty I'd get the dealer to sort this for you, if not, then you'd need to be good with vehicle electrics to dismantle the guage from the dashboard and fix the issue yourself.

Hopefully it's under warranty so you can avoid the drama

Good luck, sorry I couldn't offer any help with this....

If you wan't to check the plug yourself the trim just pulls off then can get to the instrument panel cluster mount hardwear. Not so difficult really. It is the simplest thing to try and always try the simple things first!

OK took some pics to help you along your way.
Trim around the gauges and colored pieces above and below all come off as 1 piece. Trim piece is attached to a leather boot at the bottom. You can leave that on and just flip the trim forwards so it lays on the steering column. It is easier to pop the bottom out first.

There are 4 little clips that hold it in place 2 of them are circled for you. The other side is the same.

The clips are pushed into square holes on the gauge cluster.

Then you can remove the 4 screws (circled) that hold the gauge cluster in. The cluster will then pull out and you can reach behind to the wiring.

            Good luck!

This sounds very much like a faulty connection to me or a broken wire which supplies the power to the LED's on the display. If the car is under warranty I would suggest going into your dealer for them to do other you can follow Cyclones help to have a look yourself.
