Gearbox won't change into 5th

Hey Everyone.

Yesterday while I was on my way home from work, i suddenly notices that I was unable to change into 5th gear. When I tried to, the gearstick would vibrate, and refuse to go into the actual gear, sometimes making a horrible grinding noise. Have any of you experiences this before? I've spoke to one of my friends, who is not a mechanic, although he knows a lot about cars. His best guess, was that somehow the sync in the transmission had gone haywire :mad:

His best bet, would be to replace the entire gearbox. Does this sound correct in your ears?

Note: I drive a 2012 dstyle 1.6 90hp, with manual transmission. The car has driven aprox. 72.000 kilometres.
English is not my native language, so sorry if my sentences are a bit wonky.

Had this issue when I had my Ford Puma. Turned out the slave cylinder had split thus leaking the hydrolic liquid.

Did the car drive fine in the other gears?
I haven't been driving the car very far, since I encountered the problem... But it seems that the rest of the gears are fine.

Check you brake fluid level is OK. When I had this problem I couldn't even change gear.

No idea but it should covered under warranty surely?

^ ^ In UK Citroen dealers offer an extra 1 yr on top of the 2 year manufacturer warranty- so in total its 3 years
In Europe I think it is only 2 year warranty

Even if it is out of warranty, Citroen should still help you with this problem

Sounds like the gear change linkage to me.
I had a very similar problem (albeit in a very different vehicle) many years ago, in a Bedford CA minibus with a 3 speed column change. It refused to engage 3rd gear with symptoms as described. Turned out to be a linkage issue - the gearbox was trying to engage reverse!
