USB drive not being read entirely

Hello all,

Bit of an issue with the USB feature. I've formatted my drive properly (FAT32) and it's contents are as follows:

[Artist]\[Album]\Song.mp3

Now I've got a 32GB drive that I'm using and there's 111 artists on there but for some reason my :ds3: is only showing the first 83 folders (artists). I'm quite baffled as to why it would be doing this, any advice on the matter?

have you any abnormal folder names/long names? are the tracks all mp3 or wma format? and FAT/FAT32 is the USB format.

The file formats recognised are .mp3 (mpeg1 layer 3 only), .wma (standard 9 only, 128 kbits/sec compression), .wav and .ogg. The playlists types accepted are m3u, .pls, .wpl.

Why fat32 ? i never formatted my usb in fat32 and it works great..

Fat32 gives support for long filenames and I think also for large capacity.

Ntfs is KNOW for supporting big files 1gb and over and its a faster system..

Fat32 DONT support big files and it is much slower to read.. !

I vaguely remember there being a limit on how many individual files the system can read (even if they're correctly formatted). IIRC the limit is 999 files. Possibly the issue?

The structure for the USB must not have any more than 99 folders per 'tree'. It does sound like to me that this may be the case.

Many USB sticks come these days with hidden folders onboard which carry extra programs or installation files.

As far as FAT32 goes, the manual says either FAT or FAT32 must be used and that the system is incompatible with NTFS

They are all MP3 files, the folders also contain .JPGs (album art), that's about it. No unusual names or whatever.

The USB drive is 'clean', all it contains is the folders I've placed on it.
I've made two folders in the root of the drive: A-M and N-Z, and placed the individual folders in here so I wouldn't be dealing with the 99 folders per tree limit but unfortunately this hasn't solved the issue.

Unfortunately by using the NTFS format the USB drive is not detected at all.

Funny.. ! I have no problem at all with the NTFS format.. it works perfectly and is even faster than fat32 format..

Hmm, maybe it have something to do with that i have the hifi system pack, i dont know if you have that aswell..

For what it's worth the dealer has informed me that I'm appearently at the limit for what the audio system can store in its memory. Holding 1,3 and 5 simultaneously should show the amount of memory currently available, I've yet to try that.

Looks like I'm going to be carrying around two USB drives.

Would have been nice if Citroen had bothered to publish said limits somewhere.
