Replacement AUX socket

Hello, I need a new AUX socket (the original one currently makes music sound incredibly tinny, 'watery' and very quiet (even on max volume), and the AUX cable never fits in to it properly, almost like the port is ever so slightly too big). I've Googled it and apparently it's a somewhat common problem. Anyway, is there some magical fix (it's worth a try ;-))for this or will I just need to buy a new socket? I've been told one from a C4 will fit as they're exactly the same, and for some reason, half the price. Not entirely sure on the accuracy of that though.

Another (possibly cheaper option) is to check breakers yards / eBay for the part.

I've had a look on eBay, there's only 2 and one of those wants £25 for postage alone :mad:

The only scrappy/eBay/second hand ones I can find at the moment have the USB port in with them too, however my car's original one is AUX only. Does this matter or should I be looking solely at AUX-only sockets? I understand I will not be able to use the USB part, but if it means the AUX will finally work then that would be great.

Have you looked at replacing the cable you're using?

You mentioned that it doesn't fit the port correctly and I've used similar 3.5mm's in the past that don't sit flush.

Might be a cheaper option than replacing the entire unit.

The cable is what I initially thought, but I've tried around 10 (ranging from a quid up to £25) now all of which make no difference at all. I took the socket out last year and pulled it all apart, pinched something together with a pair of pliers then put the whole thing back together which to my surprise actually fixed it (and the AUX jack fitted much much better), however 6 months on it's back to being tinny, crackly and loose. Tried fiddling about with it again but it's not made a difference this time.

At best it could just be a case of replacing the input part of it.

Buy the C4 one, if it fits and resolves the issue - Great
If not, return it - buy a DS3 one and see how that goes.

Failing that, it's probably more likely to be the wiring to the port that may have a kink/interference somewhere.

The old part number for the AUX audio socket only for DS3 is 6574NK...the new superseding part number s 96660998ZD. It costs around 7 EUR at dealer. Hopefully the superseding number
is an improved part from the old one and will solve the issue that I also have with fitting the cable in properly.
