  • headunit or speakers.

was thinking about upgrading the front speakers to some "pioneer TS-E1702IS"s they are 170mm and 46mm deep i think. i had them in a previous car and theyre very good speakers. im actually a bit gutted i didnt take them out my old car before i sold it lol

my concern about them is the power of the standard headunit. does anyone know its output? is it capable of driving a half decent speaker?

The alternative is to keep the standard speakers and put in my old sony headunit that i did keep from my previous car. from what i read upgrading the headunit can improve the sound a lot with the standard speakers. i dont have a lot of time so want to go the route which is less hassle... the price for either option is roughly the same.

on a side note, is it easy to disconnect the centre dash speaker? i find that it seems to dominate the sound a lot and im very aware that its coming from that speaker. id rather have more "space" to the sound and just come from the sides like normal.

What unit do you have atm? Upgrading the speakers would be the best choise i think. Get some 16,5 cm pioneer speakers and replace all 4!

everything is standard at the moment. I've already got a decent sony head unit here so decided to get the cables and give that a try first. hoping they'll arrive today actually

my leads arrived and i got the head unit in. its a bit of a squeeze with all those wires behind it! i tried a cd and it didnt sound that much better to be honest. i then tried a couple different cds and had a play with the equalizer settings. its got a stack of EQ settings and it took a while but im relatively pleased with the sound now. its a shame the sub in the boot cant be controlled separate like a proper sub from the headunit. its difficult to turn up just the low end bass. i still find that the centre dash speaker is slightly too dominant but ive faded it towards the back speakers one notch to compensate. i miss the usb slot but overall i think the improvement in sound is worth the sacrifice.

For the effort of changing the head I would have recommended just splicing the speaker wires and putting in an amp for some decent speakers. This method you get to keep all the standard functionality but can power the speakers to actually sound good.

Admittedly I was much more serious about my install, but couldn't be happier with the sound!

putting in the head unit was far easier ( and cheaper since I already had the head unit) than putting in an amp and speakers. It was a bit of a squeeze but at least I didn't have to run any new wires to the battery or anything. it sounds a lot better now than it did with the standard head unit. its got a stack of eq adjustments the standard one doesn't have. When funds allow then ill probably upgrade the speakers. The head unit can comfortably run some decent ones. I want a set of pioneers like I had in my old car. wish I took them put before I sold it.

i have Myway navigation and stock HI FI stereo unit. In my opinion stereo unit has quite some power but stock speakers are very low quality.
I will upgrade front/rear spekers but still thinking will I need an amplifier or the stock unit will do the job...any advice?

Get some pioneer 16.5cm speakers, front and back, and keep the original subwoofer. Radio unit had enough power and with some tweaks to the equalizer they play very good !

Were did you position your amplifier in the car? Do you have a wiring schematic for the Myway HI FI with Navigation/Bluetooth/Subwoofer as standard ...I cant find it on a forum and internet as well?

Thank for the link. I guess from your pictures stock head unit doesn't have audio out cables that could be plugged without modification to the amplifier,
Intead the speaker wires from head unit should be cut and connected...
