  • USB and Cigarette lighter socket after fitting aftermarket stereo

    Hi

I'm looking to replace my factory fitted stereo that included the USB and Bluetooth option with my pioneer Bluetooth stereo with the connects 2 adapter to maintain the steering wheel controls and rear parking sensors and would like to know whether the USB and cigarette socket still works as a power source?

    Thanks

Cigarette lighter will still work, if the usb port is connected to the new radio it will have power. If not then there will be no power on the usb socket...

      Thanks for that.

How is the factory fitted USB currently connected to the RD4 head unit? Is it a USB plug that plugs in?

No, it's a 'special' connector, i can tell you which wire is what. Or cut the connector and use a multimeter to check the wires.

A quick preview of the connector, it's the same for rt4, rt6 and smeg

I do have the full diagram somewhere but my computer has crashed some weeks ago...

Hmmm. Is it easy to remove the USB socket near the handbrake and replace it with a USB extension lead that will plug in to my pioneer unit?

You can buy a specific USB retention lead which will allow you to use your original USB connection.

Can confirm, this is the correct connector.
Not a fan of connects2 tho, had a steeringwheel interface and the damn thing stopped working after 18 months in my dad's (my old) C2 by Loeb. Only has 12 months warrenty... Beware as it's the same interface as the one for a DS3.

                    Thanks all for you input.

Hopefully last question if using the connects 2 adapter with reverse sensor support do you still get the diagram appear on the screen with the proximity markers?

Yes you still get reverse features. I put in a new Sony unit which has USB on the front so no need to use original USB port.
Plus it saves having to remove all the plastics around gear lever and armrest etc. I also used the connects 2 harness ct 008.
