  • Speakers upgrade and subwoofer mounting

    Hi,

I have C3 II which is basically the same car as Your beloved DS3 . I have standard radio (with monochrome screen A) and 4 speakers. I would like to upgrade 2 front speakers, add a subwoofer and maybe 2 tweeters on the dashboard and that's why i have 3 questions.

    1. How hard is it to replace front door speakers? Do I have to take off whole door panel?
    2. I've seen some tutorials about adding a sub, but I don't understand how it should be powered. When it is connected directly to battery isn't it taking power 24/7?
    3. Are there any cables prepared to connect dashboard tweeters even if they weren't there stock?

I apologize for my language but I'm not from GB I would really appreciate Your help, because as I see this forum is the best one and best working out there.

I'll try to answer some of these as accurately as possible speaking from the point of a DS3.

    1. It's a pretty easy job, yes you will need to remove the door panel completely, removing the trim around the door handles most likely, also removing the panel which holds the electric window switches before unclipping the door panel and removing it, should only take 5-10 minutes that part, then of course just removing the existing speaker and putting in your new one and then reversing the process to put the door panel back on.

    2. I have an amp myself, yes they are connected directly to the battery but usually have a trigger wire which will connect to your stereo, which when turned on will power up the amp to start drawing power and then back off again once the stereo has been turned off.

    3. If you don't have tweeters already there most likely isn't cables there ready for it, even if other models do have tweeters the wires probably wont be there, although it's not impossible but quite unlikely.

So your first 2 jobs are pretty easy, but the 3rd one will probably be such a large job that it may not be worth it.

Those are the answers I was looking for, thanks! I'll be doing it on spring propably and try to show results! I won't be doing a tweeter thing then, because it's not worth it I guess

May want to do a little more research on the tweeters part as I of course could be wrong, especially if you have to cut the dashboard yourself in order to get the tweeter in, if the mesh type cover is already there you may want to just pop it out and see if the cable is hanging there, otherwise I would pass on the tweeters option.

Also yeh if you do, definitely post some pictures up and best of luck!

Actually I have got those covers in dashboard and I was pretty sure there are tweeters inside, but few days ago I've popped those covers out just to see there is nothing there There is some big cable going under the cover but I'm I don't thing they are tweeters one.

I have a last question. As I don't have too much money, I thought about buying a stock used subwoofer considering it as a cheapest way. Is it worth it? An alternative is to buy 2-way front speakers. What option would be better in Your opinion? The other pro of stock Sub is that it is not using any bootspace which I'd like to save

Are you referring to the subwoofer you can get as an optional extra for the DS3 from Citroens?

This one comes as standard with the HiFi Pack.

You have it if your book looks like this:

If it looks flatter on the right, you don'y have it and it looks like this:

If you are looking to add it, it might be worth sourcing the boot lining that goes over it it also
                    My DS3R3... nearly....

Actually, apart from light mounting, that's exactly how my boot looks like.. under the rigt-side "vent" I've got an empty space and some material as a silencer i guess so i think it's not a problem to fit it. My only concern is whether it's worth installing as to enhance music quality. What is Your experience? Do You recommend it?

Your bass will be louder/deeper if you install a subwoofer.

If you wanted louder/deeper bass then a subwoofer is recommended.

Edit: I haven't read carefully, sorry so that lining makes a problem now :/ ehhhh so I have to look for more complicated option to install a sub without spending a fortune and too much of a boot space. Thank You for Your help!

Hope your boot light is better than ours!

I loved mine before I had my sub, but years of obnoxious noise with my big boot sub now makes my standard sub sound flat.

But when I had my first DS3 I added this DS one an option, and was soooo happy I added it!

What about going to a dealership, taking a look DS3 with this OEM sub and see what it sounds like? Before you invest time and cash into it

Why are you looking at the DS3 one rather than buying a stand alone one that sits in the boot space?

Edit: - You edited your post! But you could buy that liner and add I think.
