  • Wiper movement

Hi just picked up a new DS diesel for my wife and while washing it the other day I noticed that the driver
Side wiper is fixed solid but passengers side is able to move up and down is this normal ?

What do you mean fixed solid? Like you can't lift it up to wash under the window were it sits?

Both should fold out. Maybe the joint is jammed with dirt, rust, or other debris. Try some WD-40, being careful not to get it on the windscreen, wiper blade, or plastic trim below.

Hi no not stuck sorry I maybe never explained properly
If I hold the drivers wiper where it bolts to the spindle and try to lift it up it does not move but the passengers side if I hold the top where it bolts to spindle I can lift the spindle and wiper arm up and down a bit so this side seems to have play in it and just wonder if this is what it's meant to be like as the rubber covering the spindle looks like it has been designed to move

Could you take a picture and highlight where you mean? I'm not getting it from your description. The moving parts are: The bottom joint attached to the motor for the actual wiping action - only moves with motor; the spring loaded hinge perpendicular to it for folding the wiper arms out to change the blades/clean them/clean the windscreen; and the free-rocking pivot in the middle of the blade to keep it pressed flush against the windscreen as it moves.

So you have play on the passenger side wiper sweep but not on the drivers side ?

I don't recall this on my last DS3 but others can probably check and confirm theirs....

Hi Ben s thanks for the reply
I was going to approach a ds3 today in a car park but did not want to be around someone's car
Could you try this on yours go to the passenger wiper grab hold of the part of wiper that attaches to the motor spindle and try and pull as if you were removing arm from the splines !
Does yours have up and down play ??? Mines does but you cannot do this on drivers side so just wondering if all are the same or do I have a problem

Yes that's the word I was looking for end float
It's only in one arm but it may be normal just not sure car has only done just over 1000 miles so not wear and tear

No should not be doing that. Is it the spindle moving up and down or the arm moving on the spindle?

Hi it's the spindle it tends to be free to lift up and down a bit it can't be lifted right out but dies easily lift up and down a bit if pulled the drivers side has no movement at all

Pic of assembly l/h drive but yours should be the same just opposite. The bolt holding the assembly in may have come loose on that side or on the top of the spindle shaft I believe there is a circlip to hold the shaft in. This may have come off allowing the shaft to drop down. It would not come all the way out because of the mechanism to move the wipers at the bottom.

oops will add pic, hold on

Thanks for that it now looks like the circlip is missing as that is all that seems to be in the pic that would stop the spindle from lifting up and down the aluminium tube it seems to sit in
Will take it to dealer as I don't want to open things up and then give them an excuse to accuse me lol
                              Thanks again for this
