  • Anyone had a USB for iPod/iPhone fitted?

I got my DS3 last September and in my pure excitement of building my ideal brum it slipped my mind about having a USB fitted. I do a lot of motorway driving and in my last car I had a stereo fitted with a USB. It was great as it meant I could connect my iPod and control it from the panel. So, I really would love this again because I'm not too fond of using the aux cable and having to change songs etc from the iPod, therefore distracting myself.

I asked Citroen about fitting this and was quoted £200 for the cable and fitting. You could have knocked me down with a feather lol. My last stereo in my old car cost less, had the cable and sound great! Has anyone else had a USB fitted by a citroen dealer and were you quoted the same price (was told it was high cos it's complicated fitting it to the steering controls).

I have a feeling I'm going to have to bite the bullet and pay it so as not to void my warranty but thought I'd see if any of you had any experiences of this. Thank you

You could change the stereo for less than that (hint, hint, look in the For Sale section of the Forum). It doesn't invalidate your entire warranty. In my case, when I had the Alpine fitted the button on the end of the radio stalk locked up and they changed it under warranty no problem.

I presume you are talking about the "official" Citroen USB box, which is I believe is a Dension Gateway 300. If so, then I would suggest you look on eBay for one and fit it yourself. Takes about an hour but is pretty straight forward to do. Basically it just plugs into the back of the RD4 radio. The only downside is that you have to get a dealer to activate it via Lexia. This may cost you anything from zilch (if you have a super friendly dealer!!) to perhaps £30 or so. I have one fitted and it works pretty well in as much I am using it as a CD changer. i.e pressing Button 1 on the radio accesses directly the 1st playlist, button 2 accesses the 2nd playlist etc. It appears that I don't get the full on screen functionality on a Type A screen where you can see track names etc, but trust me the on-screen user interface isn't that great anyway. I can however skip tracks adjust volume etc via the below steering wheel controls and plus it charges the iPhone.

I forgot to say you are not limited to using an iPhone or iPod you can use a USB pendrive instead any the functionality is the same.

Thanks for the messages and recommendations. I'm pretty good with cars even though I'm of the fairer sex but I don't think I'd be confident fitting something myself but you've given me some food for thought. I appreciate the advice

Did anyone ever get a Dension Gateway 300 installed in their DS3? I can't find info anywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have one of these connectors in my car:

I personally am not an iPhone user, hence I have not really tried out the USB jack (picture: right). However I really love the fact that bluetooth works, so I just use that for A2DP wireless audio streaming with the DS3.

I have a 2010 model DS3 and bluetooth connectivity to my phone works well. I think I have a TYPE C screen. The info displayed on my screen is really useful, such as name of caller and track names. The audio and phone calls can be easily controlled using the stalk on the right hand side, below the windscreen wiper stalk.

--- After toiling around for an iPhone, i now have pictures of an iPhone---

                iPhone connected

Track names displyed. (This was displayed whilst the phone was connected via USB. However you will still see track names and you will still have control of the audio when the phone is connected via bluetooth)

And now the following, the essentials in dire situations. (This was displayed whilst the phone was disconnected from the car, and wirelessly connected via bluetooth)
