  • using a USB stick instead of an iPod

Now those of us who are in the last flush of youth often have a bit of bother with modern technology.

I'm fed up with trying to remember my iPod and having the lead hanging around in the car all the time and I want to put me music on a USB stick a leave it in the car.

I've read through a few old posts but I still don't get it so could someone please provide a blow by blow account of what to do?

I have a mixture of albums and individual tracks on iTunes/iPod - do I copy these over from the iTunes Media folder as individual tracks or as they are? Can I get my playlists to transfer? Will I be able to use shuffle play etc.?

    What's the best approach?

    TIA

First things first Owd Git....Format the Usb Stick first helps.

You can put your Music Albums in folders by dragging or dropping files or copy and paste them onto your usb stick these files should be MP3's...Your DS3 will play each album, playing eachtrack in each album.

Just select your desired Album using the scroll wheel on your stalk.

Just have a play with it you can't do nothing wrong.

I use Micro SD CARDS which i just plug into memory card readers.

Hope this helps Owd Git Clarky.

Thanks boys - I'll have a go as soon as me new stick arrives from Amazon

Do I have to do this album by album?

        Can I create playlists?

Owd git...If you would prefer i could put your choice of music on a sd memory card for you....Obviously i will have to buy a memory card dont worry about the stick i got loads spare.

If you send me a list of Albums you want i can do it for you then post it.

Well that worked a treat - got all me tunes on one of those wee Pretec sticks recommended by Linstan3 - no more trailing wire and having to cart me iPod Touch around.

Now dare I leave that shiny little stick plugged into the car with thieving scroats about............perhaps I could wire up a USB socket in the glove box

My Itunes is the same. Is there any chance you could let me know where the option was on yours. Would rather that than have to get a converter program and mess about with that.

I know this is going to sound really thick but will my computer format the USB stick automatically or do I have to do something?
Also what is the best way to arrange the music eg, Folder(name same as album) then tracks inside, separate folder for each album,or folder for genre and album folders in it.
Hope I've made myself clear, just thinking about easiest and quickest way to read and navigate.
One last thing, will ID tags be added automatically?
Sorry to ask so much but I'm a complete newbie to this sort of thing.

                          to format

assuming a pc not a crapple

                          insert stick in pc

close ant autorun windows it opens

                          go to computer/my computer

right click the pen drive probably e and select format

in the boxes name the drive if you want select fat32 in the file system dropdown make sure quick format is ticked then click start

                          to copy media

go to where it is on your hdd and drag to the stick (or select music and right click send to stick). if it in folders the ds3 treats each folder as an album if you just drop the mp3 files on the root of the stick then you get them all in 1 list great for random play lousy for much else

And something daft that took me a while to figure out- press the up button to change albums- I'm a bit of retard for a nerd sometimes. Also don't forget that the bluetooth will stream your music from phone as well. I use my phone as a satnav so while I'm using it for that my music streams with the lovely ladies voice telling me where to go in the background.

BTW- it's the best and easiest in car bluetooth I've used and connects every time and switching from my tablet to my phone is very quick and easy.

If the USB stick you're using seems a bit too big for you, you can buy some very onesl indeed that the cover should even fit over- have a spy on Amazon for them
