  • How To: Change LCD/Ambient color in your Spedometer, AC radio ect.

Hi here is yet another guide I found over at www.ds3spirit.com (ZACK hope it’s okay I post them here).
I Will be doing this in a week or two on my own, Speedo blue, buttons white and so on).

Want to get rid of the boring orange and change it to another color ??

Start by removing the cover of the counter:

pull the points indicated by the arrows in the direction indicated by the numbers to access the counter.

    Detach Part leather/plastic surroundings:

remove the clips from right to left:

Unscrew the 4 torx screws with a torx 20, use a magnetic screwdriver to avoid losing the screws:

Unplug the connector behind the counter:

    Here the meter once removed:

you must remove the meter for this one now unclip the black part of the white part with a small screwdriver at the arrows:

Here both sides of the counter:

Initially I had started to remove needles to access the LED but they are super hard to remove I opt for another method of clearing the right side of the counter to access the LEDs and change.

Unclip the white part of the electronic counter by pulling the eclipses indicated by black arrows and then remove the gray finish of the gauge held by the spikes in red:

Then you have to tilt the LCD (attention fragile) to unclip it from the top (red arrow) the screen and prying with a purpose to leave room to access the LEDs (a screwdriver for my part):

The six LEDs and a soldering desoldering Attention LEDs are PLCC4 standard and I replaced with PLCC2 they need to be welded diagonal
(Can someone tell if the PLCC4 will work ??, and does the using of PLCC2 mean you can’t adjust brightness ??):

    And the result:

Wish I could do this! I really don't trust myself to attempt it! I'd have to go limping home to Dad.

Plus last time I took the panel out that surrounds the handbreak to clean it, the 12mm tunnel from my ear fell out and down the gap.

Guys, it is a 'no-brainer' but if you do this mod then you can kiss your warranty goodbye for the entire car as messing with the electrics is a big no-no far a s warranty is concerned.

And I think most dealers will spot the fact that the dash is the wrong colour!

Would hardly think that messing with the electrics would void the warranty on say a corroding wheel?

I would agree with that, but the warranty guidelines are quite clear about this sort of thing

The problem is that the warranty has to be all or nothing, trying to break parts of it down would make the whole thing over-complicated.

You could argue that messing with the electrics could have caused effect on the braking system or ABS which could lead to the brakes being applied which in turn could cause excessive heat which could cause the corrosion on the alloys. Now I'm only using this an example in order to help you guys understand the thought process, which is why the warranty is the way it is.

I can actually recommend to buy som plcc4 diodes that are rgb they can change coler from red, green and blue.. You can buy these with a very small remote to change the color of the diodes..

I can take a picture of my own change when im having it done.. This will be with the rgb diodes..

http://www.dioder-online.dk/componen...fd791d95b5.jpg This remote is for 12 volt.

That mean you need a resistor.. But the chance that you can change to that many colors is just tempting..
