  • Engine replacment /stripdown at 40,000 miles.?

Need your advice and help where to turn...A year ago brought an 11 plate 1.6 DSport 155bhp..had an issue with car misfiring if the engine was under pressure,..had a fault code P1339 come up,,,so changed plugs,ht leads and coil pack...although not as bad still had occasional misfire but without fault code coming up...put into garage this week and was informed that cylinder 3 piston head is burnt on the top and needs an engine stripdown or replacement at a cost of between 6 and 7k...car has only done just over 40,000 miles...has anyone had same problem, was there ever a recall,or is my poorly DS set for the scrapyard...

Code is related to timing issues. Probably timing chain stretch or sprocket that was out. Might cause a burned piston...

Contact Jamie at SPTuning on here, as he stripped down a Racing engine and replaced with forged items
      He may do it cheaper

Or, look for a salvaged engine- plenty DS3s are written off, but engine is fine

        Hi,

My unit, DS3 THP 150 year 2010, suffered the same issue with similar miles, in my case 65000Km.

In 2014, with only 55000km, the high pressure fuel pump failed. It was replaced under warranty.
Fourteen months later (2015), while I was driving suddenly the car came into protection mode. No strange noise, no lack of power, no other failure message.
I put the car into the garage, they told me that the cylinder 3, had no compression.
I received the same information that you have writen "needs an engine stripdown or replacement".
        Car was out of warranty.

I got in contact with Citroen, I sent all the information related to the maintenance.
They offered me a discount and the possibility of replacing the engine by a refurbished one. The final bill was 3700€.

Awful service by citroen. I repaired the car and no more maintenance has been made on the official services.
Now the car has 101000km, It works fine, but before the engine failure it was working perfect too.
I have also replaced the thermostat (2017) and the coolant tank (2016).
I like this car very much but as you can imagine I will sell it not too long.

I hope this information will help you.

Sorry for my english, I'm from Spain.

Don't know if it was related because I didn't disassemble the engine.
