  • Rare as hens' teeth in Germany...

Just back from 10 days touring around Bavaria. In over 1,500 kilometers, and despite keeping my eyes peeled, I only saw one DS3 - and that was a demonstrator with dealer stickers all over it. Saw loads of A1s and Polos though.

They don't know what they're missing.

Depends on what floats your boat! If you like cities you'll enjoy Munich, which is very lively. There are loads of interesting castles & over-the-top baroque/rococo churches, set in dramatic Alpine landscape, down south along the Austrian border. Mad King Ludwig's castle at Neuchwanstein is a hoot. We really liked Regensburg, which is on the Danube and has a fabulous medieval old town. The lakes around Murmau are great for watersports. Best beer of the stay (and there were plenty of contenders) was from Bamberg (another lovely medieval town) which is famous for its Rauchbier, which has a delicious smoky flavour. Just the job to wash down a big dish of Schweinshaxe mit sauerkraut, a Bavarian speciality and really, really tasty.

We fancied Germany but always get put off by the lack on Campenille or Formula 1s, we dont like to book in advance and enjoy just finding somewhere on the night

            Is this possible in Germany?

We had no problem finding places to stay as we moved around, even though it was peak season - we just searched for places on the net as we moved around. English is widely spoken, so it's easy to phone ahead. It's not cheap, but you can get a decent double room & breakfast for £50 - less, if you look carefully - and if you're prepared to pay a bit more, you can stay in some fabulous places (we spent 3 nights in a very grand castle, at under 70 euros per night).
