  • Citroen DS20

Spotted this beautiful car in Halfords Carpark in West Wickham Kent and handed a DS3owners card to the owner who very kindly permitted me to take these photos along side LX12.

ID:	363964 That is me by the way!

He has owned her for 7 years and drives it to work every day and says it is very reliable, his wife hates her and she sounds like a Ford Cortina at 70mph and stinks of petrol but he obviously loves her. Just made me want to smile.

Yes. It was the last version of the original DS.

Cheers DaveB, just done some research:

                1966-1974 CITROEN DS 20/21/23

Such a stunning creation as the DS deserved better engines than those which had been used in the Traction Avant before the war and, from 1965, it started to get them. In that year, the Citroën DS21 was launched with a 2175cc engine of 109bhp. After the very successful restyle of the vehicle in 1967 – with swivelling headlamps and a shark-like nose – the DS19 was replaced by the DS20 (1985cc and 90bhp). But it was in the 1970s that the Goddess reached its ultimate genesis, with a 2347cc unit dropped in to create the DS23. In fuel injected form, this pumped out 141bhp. At last the performance matched the appearance.

Oooh yes - feast your eyes on this baby, as preferred by General De Gaulle:

I really, really, really want a black DS23 Pallas (but only because I can't afford a DS21 Decapotable).

Love DSs. I don't think I've actually ever seen one in the flesh though. :-/

So...shall we all club together for this:

By the cringe, that coupe's a rare beast! I thought I knew all the DS variants, but that's a new one on me!

Still prefer the Decapotable - sex on wheels and no mistake!

But that squared off rear screen was very '70s Cadillac - didn't sit well with the sleek front end imo.

(touch of the popemobile about it, now I think about it!)
