As you may know I am into 'detailing' (you might call it 'advanced' car cleaning).
Following on from a post below on a detailing meet I went to, I'm interested to know how many people would be genuinely interested in a meet at a detailer friend of mine's place (Stoke on Trent area) where we'd have a 'DS3' meet along with a 'basic' detailing meet......
I am asked quite frequently if I will detail people's car for them (I am simply a hobbyist - one or two people from here have seen my work on detailing world). Once people appreciate the difference (in terms of results) of detailing compared to 'cleaning' they tend to get interested, but they understandably don't want to spend ages cleaning their car. Detailing at its extreme gets into quite some technicalities of machine polishing and techniques, but the idea of this meet would not be to go there.
So I wondered if this might appeal: My logic is along these lines:
Show how easy it is to wash and dry your car once it is has been fully prepped previously (people think I spend 4 hours every weekend doing my car - I don't, as I've done the 'hard' work previously). Without using a sponge or a chamois (the 'enemies of shiney cars')
Show what you need to do occasionally:
How to 'clay' you car
How to polish your car (by hand only)
How to Wax your car.
How to do the 'little' bits that make all the difference (trims, tyres, exhausts (when Chrome ones)), etc, etc.
I'd need to speak to my friend more, but I don't want him to give up a weekend day if like two of us will show up.....that isn't fair on him (ok he might sell you a few bits but he's not like going to make a mint out of this).
So first question, are people genuinely up for this? Normally a meet is a meet which is fun but I think (IMO) opinion you'd gain something out of this. You've spent xx,xxx on your car, you'd have an idea how to make it bling better than the one in the showroom..
OK no dates yet and I appreciate not all can do a particular date, but I'm thinking after the Donnington meet, maybe October time.
However, first question, who would be genuinely up for this and if they say they can attend will? Of course if I do it it's all for free not my hourly rate and I'll do it for the passion of enjoying a shiney car.....my Sport Red DS3 will be an example but chances are I will take one of yours as mine's already been clayed, etc, etc.
I emphasise this is nothing more than 'basic detailing' - Interested folks?
Thanks,
Clive.
