Hey everyone,
I'm new to watch repair and have recently acquired a vintage watch that I want to restore. While I'm excited to dive into this project, I'm a bit overwhelmed with identifying some of the watch parts. I'm hoping the experts here can lend a hand!
Here's what I've got:
Any advice on these components, or general tips for a beginner in watch repair, would be greatly appreciated! I want to ensure I do this right and respect the watch's vintage integrity.
Thanks in advance!
I'm new to watch repair and have recently acquired a vintage watch that I want to restore. While I'm excited to dive into this project, I'm a bit overwhelmed with identifying some of the watch parts. I'm hoping the experts here can lend a hand!
Here's what I've got:
- Movement: The movement is stamped with "ETA 2879." I've looked it up and found some basic information, but I want to ensure I source the right replacement parts. Any tips on reputable suppliers?
- Dial: The dial has some damage and needs refinishing. Are there specialists who can restore dials to their original condition, or should I look into finding a replacement?
- Hands: The hands are a bit corroded. Is it better to clean them or replace them entirely? If replacement is the way to go, where should I look?
- Crown: The crown is missing. How do I determine the correct size and style for a vintage watch like this?
- Crystal: The crystal is scratched but not cracked. I've read that polishing might be an option. Has anyone had success with DIY polishing, or is professional help recommended?
