Run "Get-StartApps | measure" in the powershell and it will tell you, I had 256.
If you have lost them from the Start Panel don't worry, they haven't been deleted, just use one of the growing number of alternate Start progs, il be going with Start 10 once its released.

Anybody having issues starting games from STEAM, just run the DX End-User Runtimes (June 2010) from the link below.
Save it to somewhere you can find then run the Setup app.

Not being computer savvy my laptop has just told me that 10 is ready to download, is it worth waiting a while before I do it?

FYI AVG isn't currently working on Windows 10, so don't upgrade if you have that

If you are running W8.1 then I would wait, if you are running W7 then I would still wait.

I think it is giving false positives, Malwarebytes is working fine.

I can see that a few off our customers have upgraded and the Anti Virus is disabled, won't let me enabled it again, so it definatly doesn't work.

If you have more than 512 items in your start menu before upgrading (this includes all sub menus) then after the upgrade all items will be missing with no way to restore them. Currently you would have to roll your system back to pre-win10 and remove some items or wait until microsoft, who are working on a fix, releases an update. Check various forums to find workarounds and tests for the 512 limit.
                          This is now fixed

Ive spent a bit more time on this and also spoken to various geeks I know and to be honest, if you want an Operating System that is modern and easy to use then W10 fits the bill. Yes there are some legacy function left in but for ease of use and minimal maintenance then it works well. However this is also its Achilles heel if you want your PC for another purpose, its needs some serious tweaking. Some will love that it does all those laborious tasks for you, it takes care of syncing your data, of updating and installing any drivers, progs or apps, all behind the scenes, however we don't all want the latest cos the latest isn't always the greatest.

Ive installed it on three machines, my gaming laptop has been left vanilla, my media server has had W10 stripped back for the purpose of storing my music and film library plus backups of my docs (9TB of data) and it works fine, my gaming PC has also been stripped back to facilitate providing maximum ingame performance and works similarly well. However the changes I have made are vastly different, almost like we had to with XP which is both good and bad.

If you want the best of W7 functionality but would like W8.1 efficiency then W10 is a good choice, you may need to spend a days tweaking to get there though.

Thanks SFG but I am not good enough to tweak programmes, will wait as you said for a few weeks and let the updates take effect
