Up until today, the performance of AMDs new CPU has been just a mere myth, now we know, its £450 1800x model can beet the similar specced Octacore model (6900K) costing over twice as much.

But have they fixed the overheating issues which are usually associated with AMD parts? I mean, CPU probably isn't as bad as GPU if you have a good CPU cooling system in your tower, but I'd like to see side-by-side temperature data when under heavy load versus Intel.

TDP of under a 100W for an 8 core CPU is good, plus no IGP so money and heat saved there. The 6700K has a TDP of 130W so Ryzen should be relatively cool running. All my rigs are water cooled so it's not as big an issue to be honest.

1700x is £389, thats a cracking price for an 8 core CPU, also cheap considering its nearly $500 in the US.

It'd better make Intel buck up their ideas and start pricing competitively. I regret getting an i7, waste of money compared to i5 for what I use of it.

Its only the hyper threading that makes the i7 worthwhile, great for encoding and some games but apart from that.

My i7 2700K was one of my best buys as at 4.9ghz it has given me great service for over five years and is still up there in games with the i7 7 series.

looking around the bazaars, Intel have knocked a tenner off the 7700k ha ha ha ha
