asking because I read about the existing building code and it is all new to me. Never been mentioned by any inspectors to me. So how does one go about becoming a building inspector?
Asking because in my 30 years I know I have seen a change in inspectors. When I started in my little town we had one inspector who did all the inspections. Of course, when I had lived here for nearly 5 years it made the front page of the paper that we were having the first new house built in the city in over 10 years. So he did room additions and such but for 10 years there were no new houses. This one guy was supposed to know about all of the trades and he mostly seemed to be a nice guy who often just showed up. He drove the streets of the town as a cop does and at some point would just stop and walk onto the job, look around and either pass it or not NACE inspection Melbourne.
Now the inspectors in our town pass electrical and plumbing on to another larger municipality. Our guys still do framing, drywall, piers, and demolition permits unless it has haz materials. But the guys seem to be much more knowledgeable than in the past. I have heard them talk about going to class and such.
So do you think we have better inspectors than in the past or not?
