  • Citroen DS in X-Men: Days of Future Past

The ultimate X-Men movies is just around the corner, having just been teased in front of a live audience at Comic Con 2013. It's a movie that merges two impressive casts, from the original X-Men and from X-Men: First Class, a rare opportunity to see both the Patrick Steward and James McAvoy version of Professor X.

Before we completely geek-out over the trailer, we have to point our finger at something cool that we just noticed. The story is very much a mystery, but we think we can shed a little light on open particular part. A fleet of old Citroen DS automobiles, classic French cars from the 60s and 70s, is shown in the trailer.

The Citroen DS was used by the French government at the time, including the president of the French Republic, Carles de Gaulle. This famous WWII general famously had his life saved by the DS's hydraulic suspension system, which compensated for lost tire pressure.

The DS also plays a role in giving the action in X-Men: Days of Future Past a credible time frame. Action takes place after the events of Origins, which focuses on the events of the Cuban missile crisis of 1962. The DS23 models in the photo above suggest something in Future Past takes place around 1970 in France, and could have something to do with French communist protests.

We think Magneto attacks the group of protesters near Notre Dame. Rickard Nixon is also briefly present in the clip, the US president of 1969 to 1974 providing extra credibility to our theory that the action is placed in the early 70s.

Another great mystery of the trailer is how Wolverine is able to travel through time to his old body. However, we do know for a fact that Peter Dinklage will be playing Bolivar Trask, a scientist who believes mutants are a threat to humanity and creates giant robots to stop them. His daughter, Tanya, has the ability to travel through time. An attack on the White House could explain why Trask is asked to make the Sentinel robots.
