Depends on what you're using it for?

If you're frequently only using a couple of applications then a hybrid drive should be sufficient. The SSD works by storing recently accessed files in it's cache for easy reference meaning these applications would typically run faster.

If it's an all out performance upgrade you're looking for, don't even bother and bang a couple of SSD's in there in RAID0

If you're not sure what you're doing, probably best to leave it for now

RAID works in a number of different ways however follows a few standards:

Striping, Mirroring and Parity - Some RAIDs use one, some use a combination.

The most basic RAID setups are:

        RAID0 - Striping

        RAID1 - Mirror

Both of the above only require two disks but can incorporate more.
RAID0 is used for performance as data is striped across two drives rather than 1 meaning data can be accessed from two different disks concurrently.

RAID1 is used for redundancy. A copy of the data is moved from one disk to the other so that in the event of a disk failure, you still have consistent data.

In the grand scheme of things, you won't really need a RAID array for your standard home machine. It's only when crunching numbers, big images and I/O intensive tasks come in to play that you'll notice a significant impact.

They are 'ok', the SSD will just act like a large cache so will speed up progs you use more often but they are not a patch on a true SSD which deals with everything faster.

A Samsung SSD running on SATA3 and an Intel 6 series chipset and upwards will give you in excess of 500mb/s, as Fish says you will be amazballs enough as it is to not need Raid.
