  • Has anyone got a Windows phone?

    Hola!

    Seeking some help.

I currently have a 4.5 year old iPhone 3GS which has very nearly given up the ghost. Although today seems to be a better day... Maybe I can nurse it on.

    Looking at a new phone...

Was originally going to just get the iPhone 6... But they are soooo expensive imo.

Been thinking about the Nokia Lumia 930 on windows 8.1.

Anyone have any experience of a windows phone? Or the 930 in general?

Dbrewood on here is your man before you go any further. He runs the forum smartphonegurus and runs and has run many windows phones himself. Also he is a great guy. Send him a PM and he will happily offer his vast experience and knowledge to you. He was the reason I got my 925.

I've got a 1020, best cameraphone, and indeed, best smartphone, I've had.... Its just got less apps on the marketplace that Apple or Android.

It has all the ones I want though, so I couldn't care about that less! I've just got a great phone...

To play devils advocate i have been let down by Windows Phone's lack of basic features in the past having had, fixed and sold plenty. I work on 3 basics when people ask me what phone should i go for and that

I want cheap - Windows Phone
I want something that works perfectly and is simple - Iphone
I want something to make the coffee, sweep the floor and do everything - Android Phone

I have an Android phone based on a lot of the apps i use simply aren't available on other markets and the ability to change my WiFI IP settings including default gateway and DNS when i'm on a particular
network as i sit on a few that don't have DHCP. (sorry to bore) I had 3 Iphones personally and i wouldn't go back they are fantastic phones i just find there limited and boring after a while especially with Apple been so greedy.

          All opinion.

yeah got a 925 imo windows phone 8 was better than 8.1 as since the update bluetooth has been crap it can disconnect from th car 3 or 4 times on the way to work and my surface pro now cant use it as an access point for internet it connects but wont surf the net. from others i know running 8.1.1 on developer preview fixes a lot of these problems.

Just to stick my oar in here I've just went for the Sony Z3 Compact after finally letting my trusty Sammy S2 go after nearly 5 years service!

Have been very impressed with it, nice and small so it really does fit in a pocket and the battery goes for nearly two days before a charge.

Worth a look in my opinion.

I have the 930, and glad I made the move. It's a decent piece of kit, and I simply don't miss iPhone. Yeah, not as many apps as apple et al.. but it has what I need. They are a growing brand, so expect to see a lot more. MS now owns Nokia devices, which can only be a good thing. Camera is amazing at 20MB.. full 1080p display.. it's a fantastic phone =o)

I wouldn't really call the windows phone cheap. Maybe the older ones. But the 930 looks like a solid bit of kit imo.

so what exactly does android do that windows doesn't?

Why can't windows sweep the floor & make me a coffee?

One of the things I couldn't do with a previous windows phone they may have changed it since Is I couldn't change the default gateway and das server whilst connected to wifi on a work network that didn't have DHCP which is quite a basic thing... also I found the bluetooth to be temperamental also they screwed the task manager up in the version I had might be fixed now.. I'm a big windows fan on PC and Laptop I would use it over mac and Linux but on a phone I think android has it in the bag... I did say opinion
