Pet wellbeing frustrations.

This is what happens when you get fed up of paying through the nose to your vet, to fund a lavish life style, yet your pet, dog in my case, doesn't really get any further forward in easing chronic arthritis, and a few other degenarative joint disorders, leading to muscle weakening and wastage.

Firstly do lots and lots of research, talk to as many professionals including drug/medicine companies, they are very helpful.

Then get fed up of trying to contact the nearest local Canine Hydrotherapy centre, who appears to be far to busy to answer the phone, if they are that busy, can't they afford a receptionist ? And who don't return your calls.

You will like me, end up with the correct drugs and medicine for your pet, direct from the manufacturers, have learnt a great deal about your pet, understand what's best, and then if you've got enough garden space, do what I've just done, ordered a first step complete hydrotherapy pool, and it's Bigger brother hydrotherapy pool for more advanced spacious swimming, rehabilitation and fun.

Everybody I speak to, who either owns their own hydrotherapy pool, personal or commercial, has nothing but positive words about hydrotherapy treatment, and although I've jumped into this with both feet, I am very much a novice, and have booked myself on the relevant hydrotherapy courses, in order that I don't do more harm than good to my dog.

I will be sloshing about in both my pools, as it's the best way to keep full control of the dog, I'm sure once he's got accustomed to wearing his life jacket and the warm water, he will thoroughly enjoy himself, thank you Chris.

I admire you for going to these lengths to help your gorgeous doggy but I hope you've got deep pockets to run and heat the thing! We bought our house with a swimming pool in the garden, we ended up getting rid of it because it just cost too much to run and was never warm enough to really use!

Thank you, I have done all the calculations for running the two pools 24/7/365 including chemicals, water changes and the necessary additional equipment to test the water on a daily basis, and for what I've spent on vet fees over the last 11 years, it's a real cheap option for me, and not a worry, I dont have pet insurance anymore, the premium was absolutely ridiculou, if I requíre the vet for any treatment that I can't manage, then I pay up front.

Thank you so very much Ifcrule, all I or likeminded can do, is our very best for our pets, you just have to know when to stop supporting your vets lavish lifestyle, and start researching and doing some of the hardwork for yourself.

Word of caution to anyone reading about what I have done, unless your confident in your own ability and willingness to learn, listen and be told by professionals in their respective fields, the pitfalls as well as the positives, have dedication, the spare time, and the budget to support the change, not only for your pet, you too, don't embark on such a project with all the best intentions, only to loose heart, if or when you don't see much or little health gain in your pet, in just a few weeks, for those of us old enough, the late Roy Castle told us, it takes DEDICATION.

If you are thinking of getting a dog folks then don't forget the advice from Mrs Brown. "Don't buy a labrador - half the people who buy them end up going feckin' blind!"

For those of us not so lucky to have the space for a pool it's worth checking your local area as there are more and more professionals offering this service.

Update, the smaller of the two pools was delivered today, however, is it just me, or is pre delivery inspection, correct containment packaging and transportation common sense a thing of the past ?

My dogs pool has sustained impact and crush damage, I noticed this even before it was lifted off the transportation truck, it was sat on just two timber support bearers, one at either end of the 2.9 metre span, and nothing in between, it's quite obviously had another pool sat a top my dogs pool, weighing in excess of 600kg, with all that extra weight supported by just two bearers, let alone the securing compact tension crush from the tiedown straps.

The containment transportation packaging consisted of, not quite what I had in mind, I would of at the very least expected a timber crate to support and offer some degree of protection, oh no, it seems that others clearly think, that industrial cling film would be sufficient to offer cushioning support and protection, I was and still am staggered by the incompetence of all involved, this mornings phone call is going to be quite interesting.

Damage to hydrotherapy pool resolved without issue, the ground works have been completed, all the timber has now arrived, along with the Firestone rubber membrane, long time awaiting, finally the Stainless Steel fixings from Spax Germany have arrived at Spak UK, due to the load bearing weight, and the heave stress and shear calculations I did, determined some rather heavy duty specialised screws, what I ordered had no pre order costings, I was informed verbally that the A4 Stainless steel countersunk full thread M10 x 160mm screws might be a tad expensive, but not too bad, they come in a box of 50 screws, and I've ordered 10 boxes, no problem, the order went ahead.

All the other Stainless steel screws I ordered have been reasonably priced, when compared to the A4 Stainless steel screws, the conversation went something like this, good news all your screws have arrived, great, what's the cost, are you sitting down, yes, do I need to be, might do when I tell you the cost of your A4 Stainless steel screws, up to this point most boxes of screws had ranged from £25 - £43 expensive but necessary, ok hit me with the cost of the A4 Stainless steel screws, slight pause, £173.00 + VAT per box of 50 screws, and I've ordered 10 boxes, all necessary mind, I very nearly chocked on my coffee.
