  • Week in Dublin

Spent a week in Dublin recently, highly recommended. Highlight was probably picking up an MK bag £50 cheaper than the UK (or anywhere else for that matter).
Some great pubs and bars outside of the normal tourist and stag-do areas (avoid Temple Bar).
The GBP to Euro exchange rate helps but contrary to what ive heard before, I found most things to be cheaper than home, certainly the beer although much like the US, wine choice is limited and relatively expensive.

Next week on the Holiday programme SFG will be in Cornwall sampling traditional pasties and coastal walks....

Seriously though I love Dublin, used to go there once a year with work and the City and people are very entertaining. Even when the exchange rate was bad I didn't find it more expensive than the UK

Totally agree, even the yoofs are polite, one cycled past me on the pavement and just caught my arm, he stopped and apologised.

Next week SFG will be back at work sampling the finest our Sri Lankan chefs have to offer and the joys of the Jalalabad Road.

I work 10 weeks on 4 weeks off, this is more sustainable than the 12 on 4 off we worked previously although obviously its a drop in salary and means I have to spend some of my free time outside of the UK.

Some of the lads from work had a stag doo there last weekend and loved it.

Did you get a certificate in the Guinness factory? xD

Its worth a visit, even just for the view from the bar at the top with a free pint.
We loved the small bars, off the beaten track and void of tourists, think Soho but with empathy.

We go Dublin every year for a poker tournament , don't really get to look around but going a day early this year will probably be sampling some nectar.i do find the beer a bit more expensive might be a northern thing.

If you are drinking in the main tourist of stag do areas then it can be 5 euros a pint but away from that its almost half that price depending on if you drink crappy Fosters or the likes of Amstel.

On a side note, we don't drink Fosters here, when I was in the UK and Ireland earlier this year I was appalled the number of places that sold Fosters!

Dublin though I loved, and despite everyone saying it was expensive I found it cheaper, as a tourist than the UK (and comparable to home). Got to agree that Temple bar area is to be avoided, prices for beer were as much as they are here, which is way more than you guys pay, or if you just walk a couple of blocks in Dublin!

The airport is 20 mins outside the city and both buses and trains go there, a taxi isn't that expensive either.
Give me a day or so and il get back to you as im just leaving for work. Use Tripadvisor, the reviews are bang on.
