  • Help me pick a name for my empire of crafty things......

After working full time and DS3Club I sometimes find myself with a spare few minutes a day. So rather than waste that time I thought I'd start making and creating things again.

    Items will include
    • Sock Monkeys all with hand sewn outfits
    • Jewelry
    • Home Decor
    • Upcycled bits and bobs
    • Stencils for home use and decorating
    • Paper flowers
    • ETc etc

In time I'd love to just make things all day and sell online.

    BUT

I need to secure a name.............And I'm really struggling so would love your help

Some words that are important to me

    Sweetpea (my cats name)

She was also nicked named Fat Cat, a name my parents have adopted for Jay. The Fat Cat cat I have now & that lives with them.

Dragons - I had an imaginary one as a child, I love fantasy and all things magical

    Fairies - they are real

    Unicorns - obviously

Would to hear your ideas along those lines!

Now these are all mostly taken up, the internet is saturated with online craft and art shops. I've been googling and names I have though of are already out there or I think sound wrong in some odd way.

Fat Cat Crafts - I think sounds like Fat Cat Farts
Fat Cat - bigging myself up a bit

Quite like Fat Cats & Dragonflies
    My DS3R3... nearly....

I do like Fat Cats & Dragonflies as a name. People also like to know a bit about the person they are buying from when it comes to handmade and craft type items, so this immediately tells people a little bit about you.

I think that a very descriptive name can be of benefit too, for example; SP Tuning, just to use the forum's resident tuning wizard, tells you exactly what Jamie's business does from the outset.
That being said, you seem like you are going to have a range of different items, and would like to expand into some other craft type things possibly? so might be best to avoid a name that is too 'narrow'.

The other thing to consider using in your name as the business name, eg. Joni (Surname) Handcrafts. This in some ways is easier to remember than 'just' a name which could easily be mis-remembered. Eg. Fat Cats and Dragonflies could be remembered incorrectly as Lazy Cats and Butterflies.

      Hopefully that's of some use!

Edit; as you know there are businesses with all sorts of names that do great and that have failed, so I don't think a name is going to make or break business, but remember you might (hopefully!) be stuck with it for a long time, if it works out for you.

Pink Elephants and Lemonade is probably too over used so Fat Cats and Dragonflies is much more quirky and with character!

Haven't you already picked the name without even realising it...empire of crafty things

p.s. Sweetpea is very cute and I'll have one of the sock monkeys for my great-niece when you start selling them.

Is there no end to your talent Joni ! ?

I really like the suggestions - though some sound like Dr Suess books!

Obviously you would need to check any business name you might be thinking of using

Perhaps you could call it something like JONI MADE THIS which implies a personal craft item?

Then maybe on your labels it could be set out like

                            J O N I

                            M A D E

                            T H I S

and your web address would be short - jonimadethis.com
