  • Full valet - Notts/Derby area

Thinking of paying to have my car professionally valeted (I want a deep shine). Can anyone in the Notts/Derbys area make a recommendation? I've had a quote for £150 so far, which shocked me a bit.

Why did it shock you, what are they doing for £150? Does it include a machine polish and wax?

You can pay upwards of £400 for a full detail, totally depends on what you want to achieve/how bad the car paintwork is.

It shocked me because I'm a cheapskate! Also, had earlier been quoted £300 to fully protect a brand new car, inside and out incl. glass, paint, wheels, leather and carpets. However, I can see it's a pricey business now.

The time to do the job can take ages, per hour minus materials which are certainly not cheap isn't an awful lot.

But hey, you can take it down to the local ex garage and get it cleaned for "full valet" for a fiver if you want

Yep, I sure know it can be labour intensive. I spent 5 hours doing it when I gave it a full work over and the job I did wasn't as good as a professional would do. Still, I'm not looking for perfection, just a good clean and a nice shine, so hopefully I can find a happy medium between a fiver and £150.

I completely agree but sometimes it's nice to have someone else do it. I just didn't realise what was involved when you get a pro job done and that's why it shocked me. Now I've been enlightened and had more of a look around it seems quite reasonable, but I would still rather go with a personal recommendation. [emoji4]

There can be a lot involved but you have to remember as well, they have to make it look like your getting your £150.00 worth+ If you spent a full day at it valeting and you look at some detailing forums you'll see its not actually that hard to do
a close to pro job. Its just having the right stuff (all of which isn't relatively expensive) if you build it up over time i.e. wax's, polish, polishing machine (if your that way inclined).

                    Its quite therapeutic.

Once again, I completely agree with what you're saying but...and I didn't want to admit this...it's me! I'm just not physically up to it these days. The last time I spent a day working on my car, I was crippled for 2 days and made share values in Ibuprofen rise! Basically, I ain't as young or fit as I was!

Thanks. I came across these because I noticed they are approved by the Professional Valeters and Detailers society.

Your previous comments did give me food for thought though and I would actually be happier doing it myself to my own standards (however they measure up). So, I've decided to have a go at it in smaller portions, you might say. The bonnet is the main area I don't like because the swirls are the most obvious so I'll have a go at that first and see what kind of result I can get. If it looks good, I'll work my way round the car over a few weeks. If it's rubbish, I'll pay to have it done.
