That is interesting, I had exactly the same crack on my C5 some years ago, it was a frosty morning and I had the heaters on, and driving up the M3 I watched incredulously as a crack crept up from the base of the screen on the passenger side and travelled along to the drivers side just above dash board height. This was not due to a stone chip incident and I assumed that the screen must have suffered some trauma while being fitted or that the screen itself was flawed in manufacture.

Your crack may not have been any fault of the workshop, its appearnace may have been as big a surprise to them as to you. My screen was replaced under insurance with 50 pounds excess paid.

Some insurance companies don't give Windscreen cover Standard or Allow you to remove the option to save money. For example Tesco Value car insurance, Zack look at your Schedule of insurance and policy certificate. One of them should tell you if windscreen cover is included. If it is then they can't refuse and should charge you only about £50-£75 excess.

              Thread topic deviation.....

Good job it werent a heated windscreen? My old Ford Focus had one and it was great
Bout 2-3 mins and any frost was gone
When I asked if i could get one fitted to the DS3 they said the heated front windscreen was PATENTED to Ford only

Now why would a company wanna keep a good idea locked up.....and not alow everyone to benefit

Obviously if you must have a heated front screen then your only option would be to buy a Ford, therefore they sell more cars by keeping heated front screens to themselves rather than let other manufacturers use them.
DS3 Racing, also available in White!!!

Yeah agreed - but they could sell them on license or something?
Then they could make a few quid on every one that was sold- rather than keep a good idea to themselves!

                  Spose thats FORD

Citroen did mess about with this tech but an Engineer told us at a Citroen Launch that they aren't happy with the safety aspect of the heated elements in the front window. He pointed out a problem Volvo had a few years ago with failing relays with caused the rear heater to remain 'stuck' on which in turn super heated the glass and caused them to explode.

Not sure of why a front windscreen is different to a rear windscreen....
and had my Focus for 9 years and a couple stone chips didna affect heated frontscreen running
Tis a shame.......... but then it gives DS3 engine couple minutes to warm up by idling to clear the screen anyway.....
                          silver lining and all that
