  • Would you buy without a Logbook?

    Hi guys,

I've been looking for a decent Vespa PX for a few months now and I've just spotted what looks like a really great example. The problem is when I checked the logbook against the chassis no. they didn't match.

At this point i would usually run a mile but my local garage tells me that PX's are always chopped and changed so this isn't really that shocking and that if i bought it and sent off a V62 the DVLA would send me the correct logbook.

Problem is I can only make out 6 digits and that's it, there are also supposed to be some preceding letters right?

Should I pass on this bike and find another or have people bought them like this before?

The V5 will ONLY be issued if the previous keeper does not log an objection.

If you can't see the VIN on the bike then be suspicious, I take it you have tried running an HPI check on the reg number of the bike?

I would not risk buying this. Just keep looking there are others out there that you can buy with piece of mind.

I did run an HPI check and it came through fine but as the chassis number didn't match the log book im guessing that was pointless anyway?

How much of a difference was there in the digits?

Unless its half price what you would expect- but then again, surely it would be more to it than getting a replacement log book?

I'd question the current owner see if they are willing to get the correct logbook rather than buy the bike and do this yourself. If they are then I'd say it could 'POSSIBLY' be ok however if they kick up a bit of a fuss i'd just bail.
