  • US dealer wrecks customers ZL1 whilst it was in for warranty paint work..

Horrible story, makes you wonder what goes on behind the scenes when you leave your pride and joy in somebody else' possession

    http://www.lsxtv.com/news/dealer-wre...12-zl1-camaro/

"On Sunday, December 15, 2013, my prized 2012 Camaro ZL1 took its last breath at 4:47 pm. The car was at the dealer in Georgetown, DE for paint issues (under warranty). It had been locked in the service bay over the weekend. On Sunday afternoon, an employee of the dealership (service writer) entered the locked building, removed the keys to my car from the service department, and went on a joyride. The car was totaled when he lost control and sheared off a telephone pole.

The dealership informed my wife and I on Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. of our loss. Yes, they waited over 16 hours to tell us about our car. I am sure they discussed the incident with their attorneys prior to calling us.

It is now Friday, the car has been officially totaled by the insurance company, and the dealership is telling us it is not their problem. They even refuse to provide my wife and I (and our insurance company) with their insurance information.

I traded in my 2011 SS2 Camaro and sold my 1969 Camaro SS in pristine condition to buy the ZL1. I will never be able to afford another new ZL1, and basically I don't think I should have to be put in the position to have to buy a new one. We trusted the dealership to use vigilance while our car was in their possession. We can't even have charges pressed against their employee for theft because the car was not in OUR possession when stolen.

Something about this whole thing just doesn't seem right. What would you do if this was your baby?"

He doesn't help himself by demanding a brand new car, when his old one was two years old.
Reading the thread on the Camaro forum, the dealer is helping a bit but the dealer should be putting the owner in a car with similar spec, mileage and age.

What he really needs to do buy a something much better like a DS3.

Yeah he should get a DS3 and put a Camaro engine in it.

Happened to an old friend of mine too kind of... She took her classic mini to a mini specialist for some work and an mot. Didn't know he had to drive it 30 mile round trip to a different garage for mot and on the way he wrote it off! Was a lovely little car and insurance gave her 400 for it which was about the cost of her new minilites and tyres!

                Update!

                http://www.pfadtracing.com/blog/owne...-a-resolution/

Regardless, the nightmare is over. GM & Berger Chevrolet got involved and have sourced the Hoopers next ZL1. Hopefully the dealership will bounce back from this and no permanent damage will be done. It was a lesson in damage control and customer service and John Hooper himself felt bad for the amount of shit that fell from the heavens on that dealership. It is also testament that the force is strong in car lovers and especially in the Camaro community. We are proud to be a part of it.

Not only that, the communities involved in the story had a bit of a whip around and the guy now has some nice new mods to go in it
