A lot of the time with very little colour in images, they'll work better in black and white so try desaturating them

Your pictures are good Biggie. I'm finding you can't learn photography from a book! Yes you can learn exposure, depth of field etc. etc. but composition? Tough one that. Apart from some simple rules like the rule of thirds it's a matter of looking at something and saying "That works." I often say that but when asked "Why" I can't answer it!!! Very frustrating.
