  • My baby has an Oil Leak..

Hi guys Happy New year for 2016 and may all your dreams come true..
I'm new to this site so I'm not 100% on how to navigate on this site yet. I have a DS3 Dstyle which I absolutely love and have owned it for around 3 months now but I have recently had it serviced and have found out it has a oil leak which isn't major but more alloying leaving oil on the drive which I'm sure could get worse in time. My mechanic said he would have to strip the engine to find the oil leak but just check the oil levels for now and keep an eye on it. The DS3 only has about 33,000 on the clock and doesn't seem to have any other issues. Is this a common fault with this car and if so what is it most likely to be ?? 0 - and one other thing, my DS3 seems to have oil marks around the drivers side wheel arch!! Can anybody help me or advise me because I wanna make sure my baby is ok. Thank you so much guys, Steven

Hi Steven, Welcome to the Club.

There are many areas where oil could leak. Did your mechanic say it was definitely engine oil?

Put a large piece of cardboard under the car overnight and try to see the position the oil is coming from. Then you just have to find the leak. Get an LED torch and have a good look round and try to trace where the leak is coming from. This may mean you have to jack the car up at the front, or put it on a hydraulic lift to see from the underneath.

There is a cover under the oil sump you may have to take off, to have a good look. Just a few bolts

I'm surprised your mechanic couldn't tell you where the was leaking from, but just have a good look first, before taking to a garage

      What engine do you have?

My first DS3 was a petrol 120Vti, she had an oil leak at 55k miles.

Mine was because the Timing chain bolt was loose, causing the oil to leak from the engine - when looking under my bonnet last week, there was loads sitting on the plate under the engine.

Service said Citroen don't dead lock them on, so after time with movement and changes in heat it has a tendency to wiggle loose.

Tightened back up, engine bay cleaned, brake disk, wheel and hub cleaned up.

Sounds very similar to yours, I had oil on my drivers side wheel,

Just an avenue to look into.

This happened to your diesel DSport or the Vti WTF ?? I'm confused.... If the DSport I'll keep an eye on this in case mine gets the same issue, I'd have to look which bolt and where it's located though as I've never had to tighten it to date (38k miles)

Ah ok, the way your response was worded it looked like something had happened "last week"
