  • Hello! Just bought a DS3

Hello! Newbie here, just joining up having put the deposit down for a (used) DS3 1.6 THP DSport today.

So it was time to replace my wife's ageing polo.. We had a Bluemotion 1.4 tdi, which Id' always thought was rather slow, but used to enjoy the three cylinder noise (half a Porsche I kept telling myself!), but having just got back from hols hiring a 1.8 petrol insignia I now know the meaning of Slooooooow. That was the most gutless thing I've had the displeasure of driving!
So she wanted something that was cute, and had a colour (no silver white or black), it should be petrol (what with the recent politics on diesel), and it had to be a bit quicker than the polo, and most certainly faster than the insignia, oh and it should really have some kind of removable roof (she misses her old MG midget)

On the short list was a Fiat 500, Vauxhall Adam something or other and the DS3 cabrio. I looked over the stats and said the DS3 THP was the one to go for. So the hunt was on. Yellow was top choice of colours, however I wanted to get from a Citroen dealer after being burned by an independent in the past. Found a really nice looking yellow one with the right spec, but was 150 odd miles away - was talking to the dealer about going up today, but at the last second it sold.. Grrr.. Then I found a red one in Salisbury, 4k miles only, bit more than the others but with that mileage it's pretty much new (was owned by the dealer as one of their staff cars). My worry was a bit that it may not have been treated as nicely as I tread my cars as they tend to shift these on quick, however a quick check over the tyres and it doesn't show any sideways action, the little bobbles on the edge of the tyres are still intact!

Didn't really get a chance to put my foot down on the test drive, as I had my five year old in the back, however it matters not what I think, so long as my wife is happy with it that is all that matters, besides I have my own fast car ;-) She seemed to like it anyway.

    Deposit now down.

Just decoded the VIN to see what options.. It has Sat Nav (wasn't bothered about that as we tend to use Waze), and leather. Apart from that I think everything is standard (folding mirrors and heated seats would have been nice but not essential). Doesn't look like any recalls affecting this one either.

First question I had, was if there were any possible options for coding these things. I'm used to other makes where a few of the options are simple coded items in the ECU which can be added on with a a few hacks (like enhanced bluetooth, where you can switch the mode from connecting from one phone to up to 4 at the same time, otherwise a £££ option) I had a search through the forum but didn't spot anything on coding these little cars... Any pointers or is it just not possible?

    See you around
    Matt

Unfortunately Citroen don't do heated seats for the UK market. Welcome btw

ah cool.. at least that's one less thing to wish for... Must admit love them in my car, but I'm off and up around 6am in the winter, so kind of need it. Luckily for me the person who owned my car went a bit mad ticking boxes, I'd never have paid the stupid amount for them

Not local to Salisbury, but it's not that far away (under an hour) and we pop down regularly anyway.. Had the day off work today after holiday so popped down then walked around the centre after.

Welcome aboard, I've never heard of coding options (like BMWs and some Audi's have) for the DS3, we tend to stick to remaps (if it goes to Jamie at SP Tuning he'll make it v fast), BOVs/Intercoolers etc on the THPs

That's a shame.. Its a typical thing we (can) do on the BMWs. So many of the options are software enabled only - really it's a bit cheeky when you think about it as all the tech is there, you just have to pay to switch it on as an option and BMW options are stupid money!
Some examples are, if you have fog lights, you can enable them as turn lights, so that when you turn the steering wheel it switches on the fog in the direction of turn. You see this on quite a few new cars now anyway.
You can change the number of possible flashes for the MOM use of the indicators. If you use the menu in the car you can have 1 or 3, but in software you can change it up to 8 I think.
Enhanced bluetooth, like mentioned before so you can have 4 phones connected - sounds daft, but useful when you have a personal and work mobile phone.
Bone of contention, but the M135 has a fake engine noise, but you can turn it off, turn it up or change it to an M3/4 if you like.
DVD in motion - you can turn off the speed restriction so you could watch a movie whilst driving (illegal in this country, unless the driver cannot view the screen)
                            etc etc.

Luckily most options were already included on mine by the nice person who bought it new, so I've not bothered on this, but have coded various things on VAGs in the past - they have similar software enabled options too. I recall VAGs can also be mapped DIY through the diagnostics socket too with the right software and cable.

One question I do have, which I should probably ask in the right forum category is about the Nav system - can it be updated as it will go out of date at some point? I've seen the SOS button so assume it has a SIM card in it, but not found a mention if it updates automatically over the air, or if it is a dealer update paid or free etc. I'm assuming there is no DVD hidden somewhere like really old systems.

I doubt Mrs Matt will want it mapped anytime, she's coming from an 80bhp diesel after all So far she has shown no interest in having a go in my M135i, then again I'm rather a nervous passenger, the only person who has driven it apart from me since owning it was Ivan at Total Car Control @ Millbrook.. and by god he drives fast!
