  • New Guy looking for advise

    Hey guys,

    I am in the process of looking for a car and well since i am here its going to be in a DS3. Now i learnt in a 1.6 turbo DS3 when i was learning to drive and i did like it however my question is which of the DS3 models should i get considering some factors;

    - Price
    - insurance
    - ease to mod/best to mod (i love tinkering and modding stuff)
    - reliability

    any advise be great
    cheers

    Price - Just go on autotrader and see what's in your price bracket

    Insurance - new driver on any of the 1.6 engines, especially the petrol turbo THP, will be v high. You can get the newer 1.2 turbo Puretech but then the price is higher because newer car

    Modding - not the VTi engine, it has no tunability. THP has the most mods but see below. The HDi 110/115 DSports are decent to mod too. The HDi 90 is a smaller turbo and a bit less inspiring. Puretech engine is too new to have much for it

    Reliability - not the THP. Probably half the problems we see posted are to do with that engine, especially the Racing variant. Steer clear of the Racing. The THP can be good if you know how to take care of it, see any number of threads on here. It's also the most fun to drive. VTi is good reliability but drinks oil like mad, also temp sensor can go faulty on earlier models. HDi engines are probably the best as long as you are not town driving only - the DPF will clog if you don't do long journeys to clear it out. Fuel economy on the diesels is good too. Puretech is good so far, but it's too new to tell if something is lurking ready to kill them at a later date. Doubt it, I'd hope Citroen learnt from the Racing mistakes.
