  • Another New DS3 Owner - Almost! But I'm hearing bad things about economy

Hello DS3 owners! Just ordered my DS3 today.

    Polar White
    Black Roof
    Black Bellone Alloys
    DS3 Dsport Plus

Now I ordered the eHdi Air dream 110bhp model for its superb economy figures and 99g/km no tax and lower insurance etc.

So pretty much as a cheap to run town runabout (also run an M3 which will now be strictly my weekend toy)

Love the look of these cars since I first saw one. I have px'd my Renault Clio diesel, also cheap to tax, insure, and run for the DS3

Read some posts however about the economy not being what it says - Clio gave me 55+ ripping it quite badly with absolutely no concern about eco driving.

Please tell me that some people have got better figures than this, cuz Im beginning to think ive just bought a eco car which isn't as economical as the car its replacing.

Was a bit of an impulse buy so any convincing that its a fantastically awesome economical amazing piece of engineering will help me sleep easier.

Im a student with a 60mi daily commute

    I drive a LOT and I'm a proper petrol/diesel head

    Thanks guys

I have the 90 HDi (the original ones)

and depending on what roads you drive on makes a big difference.

For example, mine gets 40/45 mpg town driving but on the 60 mph roads i see 65mpg+

But on motorways (as mine doesn't have a 6th gear) I only get 55-60mpg,

where as the 110 diesel gets better mpg at the higher speeds....
    sigpic.

I have same car but in black all over, ive just done 550 miles in 3 days average mpg 61.2, did a 90 mile trip other day decided to see what i could get in mpg got 74.2 according to trip meter, most miles are done for work so try to drive sensibly, this is my 2nd DS3 Dsport hdi and over the 26k i did in the last one my average mpg was 57.5 even with a few blasts round the evo triangle that is local to me (route popular with the said car mag for test drivingit tends to have a detrimental effect on mpg :-D)
It really does depend on how you drive as to what you'll get but ive never had reason to complain about the consumption and its a much better car than the clio by miles.
I couldn't fix yer brakes so I made your horn louder!

i have the d sport plus 110 hdi if you put your foot down it will drink the fuel as all cars do.
but if you drive it right around town im seeing 60 mpg but im finding it hard not to put my foot down so ive started to use the speed limiter.
im yet to take it on a run on the motorway as my car is just over a week old

I think the Clio is a boring car but the engine is the most refined small diesel ive driven, def quieter engine than the ds3. thing is no matter how hard or how full my car the clio wont dip below 52mpg even if i try - calculated. being that the clio and the ds3 are similar cc power and weight i thing an engine made in 2011 shud be much better than the figures suggest. i was hoping the ds3 would have been better if not much better.

well i dont kno as i havent got it yet, being delivered before next weekend. if i don't change my mind

suppose ill reserve judgment till ive actually driven it myself

Ive managed 42mpg over 350 miles out of the M playing the "mpg game" so...

                      42mpg in a M3 you must be a saint.

                        Ignore the 'official figures' in the brochure as they are not representative of real world driving, in fact the VCA fuel book actually states;

Because of the need to maintain strict comparability of results achieved by the standard tests they cannot be fully representative of real-life driving conditions. Firstly, it is obviously not practicable to test each individual new car; thus only one production car is tested as being representative of the model and may therefore produce a better or worse result than another similar vehicle. Secondly, there are infinite variations in driving styles and in road, car and weather conditions, all of which can have bearing on the results achieved. For those reasons the fuel consumption achieved on the road is unlikely to be the same as the official test result. The purpose of the official fuel consumption test is to provide comparative data on the relative fuel consumption of different cars rather than to provide an estimate of average on the road fuel economy.
I tend to advise my customers that DS3 HDi tends to achieve around 50-55 MPG

If you want an eco car then why buy the DS3? Its not exactly one of the features that's outstanding about it. Get a smart car if you want sky high mpg.

claimed 74mpg on the HDI with 99g/km

being eco is one of the main features of this car!
