Yet another newbie

Hi all, was browsing through the entertainment forum to try and figure out why my USB stick won't work :confused: and thought I should register and say hello, so hello!

I'm Jody, and despite the spelling I am female. Test drive a DSport+ at very end of September and was totally won over (well you would be too if you had been subjected to almost 7 years in a zetec s fiesta). As I am rather impatient and didn't want to wait for my first choice colour option I decided to take the showroom car off his hands so have myself a black on black + and am over the moon with it. Actually think I now prefer it over my original choice of shark grey/carmen red.

Still getting used to various bits, figuring out the bluetooth was fun for me, but probably not for my friend Amanda.....

Won't be doing much to this as it's on contract hire for 3 years and then I can hand it back and get me a shiny new one :cool:

What's your issue with the USB stick?

Hi BM,

Sorry, I should have said. I just tried sticking my work USB stick in when I left work tonight after chucking a few tunes on it but the car doesn't seem to be even recognising it, it just skips the USB port and goes radio-phone-aux (with nothing in it). To be fair, I have probably done something stupid so will try it again tomorrow once I have a few more brain cells!

You should just be able to use Source to switch to USB to play MP3s. Let me know how you get on, I bought a couple of 16GB tiny USB drives from Play.com which work a treat, if you're still having issues I'll find you a link to them. Also, there's a few threads about the best way to put stuff on the drive (pretty sure Bigfeet did one).

Keep that black clean, and don't use a sponge, that colour will swirl like mad! Any advice on the detailing (cleaning!), let me know!

Did see the threads BeefMasta, have ordered a new 16gb stick from Amazon today so will try it out when it arrives and see how it goes, thanks for the offer of help.

I had problems with USB sticks when I first got my car, eventually got it sorted by trying different file types and bit rates. I use WMA files and the owners handbook states that they have to be 128Kbit, so converted all my files down from 192Kbit as stored on my media server and put them on a USB stick, after several minutes reading the USB stick the car gave up and switched to radio. Tried several USB sticks but none worked. Met up with WTF who works near me and swapped USB sticks, hers with mp3 files worked fine in my car ( although I had to turn the volume right down to stop the car from vibrating ) & mine didn't work in hers, so started trying different file types. Eventually settled on WMA files at 192Kbit which work OK even though the handbook doesn't list them as a supported bit rate. The other thing to note is that the USB stick should be formatted FAT32.
