  • What to look for when buying a DS3

    Hiya everyone :-)

Ok, so I don't actually own a DS3 yet, but I'm hoping I will do soon. I'm after any hints, tips or advice on which spec, engine size etc I should consider. I'm looking to spend between £13 - 15,000 and obviously I'd like to get the best for my money!! I'm not technically minded in the slightest and I have to be honest in saying that it is the look if the DS3 which has caught my eye! So I guess performance is secondary but having said that I'd still like a bit of poke under the bonnet!

I figured this would be the best place to come to get some help from the people who know from experience what to look for and what's worth spending the extra on :-)

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi kaz,

I was in the same predicament as you when choosing mine. It hasn't come yet but it's being delivered a week tomorrow!!! Very excited!!!

I'm getting the DStyle Plus which has the engine as the standard DStyle but has some of the features and accessories of the DSport making it the Plus model. The exterior has the 17 inch alloys and chrome features. Also has air con, rear parking sensors and many more nice gadgets that you don't get as standard on the DStyle.

But like I said I haven't actually got the car yet so can't comment on performance.

    Good luck!!!

I think the + models in either dstyle or DSport dependant on performance or economy engines

          Welcome,
1st I think you need to make an assessment of how you are planing to use the car. Long distance commuting? a diesel might be better. Pure city driving? a small petrel. Spirited driving bigger diesel or petrel depending on what you like. There are endless combinations but you really need to look at it and then find the engine that will best match your needs or desires. Do not forget the running costs fuel insurance etc. and road tax some of the engines are tax free. Also do you want only new or slightly used where you would get more car for the money? As exciting as it is to get a new car don't loose sight of the realities when making your decision. Good luck!

Thanks! Some really useful advice there so far. I would definitely consider a used car, in fact that may be the way to go. However, I have read have been a number of re-calls of the older models... Is that something which has now been resolved? Also is Bluetooth standard? Oh, another big consideration is the stereo! It needs to sound good, loud!!

As for usage I won't be clocking up hundreds of miles every week as I'll only be using it around town, to and from work etc. maybe the odd trip away but nothing major.

            Kaz :-)

If you're considering an second hand THP 150 DS3 I'd recommend a search of the forums as there have been tales of woe with more of this than I'd expect to be normal. Currently the newer THP 155 models are showing less issues but I'm not sure if the engines are actually modified or not

              I have a diesel 115 DSport+ and I'd recommend it !
