  • Citroen C2V6

Met guy from the sister club on Monday and did some photos of the mental C2V6 he has. You certainly hear it coming that's for sure.

    Taken at Salford quays area

Near Manchester Piccadilly. Really like the reflections on the wet cobbles

Love that you can see the rain frozen by the flash

taken on the lower floor of Trafford centre car park.

    Probably my favourite

Welcome any comments and constructive criticisms

Nice shots there Phil, couple of questions... I have recently got a decent flash as it's an area I would like to explore more. Looks like you are using multiple flashes in most of these shots, i.e. the first picture looks like one shooting the front and one shooting in from the left, and is the 2nd to last picture a flash firing from both sides and a led lamp in the boot?

I'm guessing you are using the flashes on manual mode, is this at full power?
What trigger system do you use for the off camera flashes? I have good heard things about the Cactus systems.
Are you using dedicated light stands for support, tripods or something else?

    Cheers

      Hello mate,

good spot and you are almost right there.

The main flash (a Canon 600exrt) is actually in ettl in a 24" softbox on a lightstand, I was trying it in manual but with the 7d and the triggers I use you have to change settings in the camera menu and as the trigger support ettl i thought why not?! The second is a cheap yongnuo flash bare on a low power just to add a bit of fill in flash.

The second to last pic is actually three shots blended into one lighting it from either side with the softbox and then for the interior just had the flash bare on the floor pointing at the ceiling of the car. It is vital the camera is on a sturdy tripod, you do not touch the camera at all use a cable release or better still a remote switch as this saves you a ton of work in photoshop lining things up.

For the triggers I have had some cactus's and they work fine, rarely missing a beat but I wanted to move on to ettl and pocketwizards are great but they are too expensive. Read good things about the Yongnuo ETTL triggers and bought three of them as they are transceivers. One on camera and one for each flash. I will be getting another ettl yongnuo flash in time and when I do I'll get the new commander to control the other flashes on top of the camera so no need to be running back and forth.

Here is a link to the flashes

      Hope that helps...

Bloody hell, can you translate that into a language I understand Phil😉
Fairplay to you though. Images always look great and you certainly know your stuff pal which makes for interesting reading even though I haven't got a monkeys.
I will stick to cleaning the cars 👍

I'm going to upgrade before the wedding but I'll still want a reasonably trouble free photo shooting experience

Nice lighting. I've only heard good things about Yongnuo flashes. They seem very well built for a cheaper third party product. I'd like to use flash more but I don't want to be spending money on triggers that I'll probably hardly ever use.

Really?! My phone camera is pretty decent, for a phone (I've got a Samsung Galaxy S5) but doesn't even come close to shots I get with my 550D.

                          Thanks everyone

Unfortunately have to say how ever good a camera phone is it will never completely replace a dslr for me.

All that colour information that is list when it converts/saves to jog

All makes perfect sense to me Phil.

I will get used to the flash first before getting triggers, but as I shoot Pentax(K-3 & K-5) I will have to look at pttl gear, but cheers for the good advice
