  • Hi fi and cinema porn

Calling all Hi Fi / Cinema Buffs to show off their equipment! Don`t all yawn!

I`ll start with Arcam AVR 750,Arcam Bluray player, Brennan hard drive storage, Sky plus HD, Chromecast/Youtube etc and a set of Bowers and Wilkins 600 s2 theatre speakers and subwoofer. I`m ashamed of my non-curved Samsung lcd screen,so no picture of that! Get dusting...there`s alot to do!

Looks like you have a good setup for the bigger Panasonic tv you bought earlier in the year, the key for music and films is storage and efficient running and you definitely have that sorted. I am still a little old school when it comes to my music and movies, the main thing is it works and the quality is good. I honestly didn`t think anyone would reply to my thread. Happy viewing/listening!

I didn't buy the other model, I knew this was coming out soonish so just hung on to my Panny 50" plasma for a bit longer. Picked this up last time I was home, very good once adjusted, running films like Transformers on BRD via optical from a PS4 is great. The QA M4 really only comes into its own when you crank the sound up, for normal viewing it sounds good but action films is where it excels. They also have great customer service as I found out when I blew a tweeter, they sent me a spare with free P&P for trade cost.

I have a Toshiba Regza in the mancave that I will replace soon and another Panny in my daughters room running from her PC and a PS3.

Any old laptop will be fine for a HTPC, pick up a wireless/Bluetooth media keyboard/trackpad and hide the lappy away. As long as the laptop has a modern(ish) graphics chip and can display 1080 - 1440 then you should be good to go. Even an external drive plugged in to a rear USB3 port is ok although conventional hard drives break me due to their pedestrian access times compared to an SSD.

Looks like you have it sorted and running well now. What bemuses me about any tech /hifi or cinema products is that you can have your setup running perfectly and really enjoy what you are using and then a newer and supposedly better product is launched....I kept my last system running from 2001 to 2014 and then Bluetooth and Wireless took off and advances in picture and sound and HDMI connectivity too. That`s progress!

There is a lot of pointless technology used nowadays, mostly its sales gimmicks. 3D is dying hence why the glasses are rarely bundled any more, and aftermarket sales of 3d glasses have dwindled massively. Most people don't need the wireless/internet/smart TV features as their Skybox or PlayStation can do the same. This is why I run any web based entertainment through a HTPC, far more efficient, manageable and configurable. Plus then the TV isn't open to a free for all data grabbing exercise, I have the lot turned off, even voice activation.

3D made my eyes hurt so I didn`t get conned by that marketing ploy. You`re absolutely right about all the smart tech....you can do all that yourself without the need to upgrade tv and it is all set up to your personal needs and wants.Better to do a little research and get a lot more of what you actually need to use! Thanks for the feedback.

Nice one, I'm currently working for a family that has massive Panasonic TVs in every room (brand new 65" in the family room for instance), they had a firm come round and calibrate every set, took an entire day and I suspect cost a small fortune for something that could be done for free and about 15 mins per set.

Thanks! D.I.Y. is the way to go with all the set up,spending time and fine tuning and refining is all part of the fun, plus you learn alot more about the features and limitations of said system.
I remember you tailoring your setup to your needs. Now I have finally completed mine I can use all the features fully on a daily basis and completely understand their capabilities. That`s how it should be otherwise it would be a complete waste of time and money spent.
